foyer mural

Hi y'all! I'm painting a mural in a small foyer. Homeowner wanted something southern and fairly local, but not beach, marsh or swamp. So he's getting creek and southern mansion with live oak trees.

Here's the charcoal sketch on the wall, about 2 hours yesterday...

Here's how it looks after 5 hours' work today...

Re: foyer mural

That looks so inviting. The cool shade of the trees under the hot sun- a mint julip or cold lemonade waiting on the veranda . A great foyer.

Re: foyer mural

Ruth, you are so amazingly talented. I went thru some older threads the other day, and was so impressed with every one of your murals. They are just beyond wonderful. I may have gushed before, when I first found this site and if I did, sorry to repeat myself - I have a short memory!!! I've learned so much by studying your paintings. Please, keep posting!

Re: foyer mural

hmmmmm.... how about some close-ups!!! Oh my how I LOVE Live Oaks!!! Actually planted one in my back yard 2 years ago. It is now about 10' tall. Nothing quite like that tree..... 50' tall but over 100' wide when mature....sometimes 150'!! So amazing to think that there are Live Oaks here in the south that have been alive longer than this country has existed.

Re: foyer mural

Hey, I think I'm gonna invent a jaw pad, kinda like a knee pad but for the chin so that when I view Ruth's work it won't hurt so much.

Ruth, I was wondering, I'm sure you've done a tutorial somewhere on trees... could you link to it? I'm particularly interested in how you "build" a full sized tree, like this one that's the size of that doorway... I know you scumble and don't do individual leaves, but it ends up looking like you do. So howd'ya do that??? Step by step, brush type/ size? I just wish I could get inside your head for a few little minutes! And I'm with Robin.. a streaming video, even a short one, would probably throw me into seizures of happiness (at least for a few minutes, )

Sorry to be a pest, trees are my downfall cuz I fall into doing leaf by leaf and then I still hate how they look in the end. Yours always look so fresh and, well, alive! I find I just keep looking and looking at this, the water, the trees... stunning.
