Re: Sycamore at Aliso Springs
This is really lovely. It displays a very appealing mix of loose brushwork, without loss of content, and a sure understanding of light and atmospherics. It's convincing and powerful and humble and unforced at the same time.
The modelling of the sycamore is effective with the overlays of cool and the bounce of warm color notes.
I was wondering about a slightly more dramatic value shift from foreground to background light, but the painting isn't lacking for lack of this suggested change. I'm just a values freak, so I played with them.

Re: Sycamore at Aliso Springs
I'm NOT a values freak and I thought along the same lines as 144, but...
.. my thoughts were leaning to that area within the "C" (basically the lower right corner) where the interest shifts to find little subjectivity within. I thought maybe some lighter values there or highlights would add some interest.
It's a very nice rendering, even great, but I believe your perspective -- in re: to comp -- could've been better. -Harry

Re: Sycamore at Aliso Springs
I like the feeling of light and the golden colors. Especially the hint of detail on the tree trunk.

David this painting just sings - it has a voice as light and beautiful as any ever heard. The brush work and the colors - wonderful! It is a joy to view!

Re: Sycamore at Aliso Springs
Very nicely executed. Loose brushwork in the back ground, suggestive of other trees, but it doesn't compete with the fine detail of the foreground trees. Good depth and interesting composition. It has a nice warmth to it.

Re: Sycamore at Aliso Springs
Lyn has given you good advice but it is such a terrific painting, that the subtle changes really don't matter. I am becoming a big fan of your work. Chammi
