Pmc And Enamel

Hi I am interested in enameling pmc but I do not want to have a serious kiln around. I have seen a heating set up with propane in a ceramic pot on top. Would I be able to do any enameling in this set up. I can't seem to get any information on line , perhaps somebody here knows of a a link. Ofcourse first hand experience is preferred . Hi Jolieo, I don't have a link but I do know that it is possible to enamel on pmc with a small torch. If you happen to find a site that has some information could you please post it here?

Hi Linda Thanks for posting. I found one link that is basic without any technical info. It says something that I found interesting though. It says that PMC can be mixed with enamels and fired at a lower temp(slightly lower temp) for a colored metal effect. Hi!!

I'm new to WC. I do some metal clay, glass and painting (painting w/frits/enamels in fused glass)---also oil painting. In response to your question of enamelling w/torch, etc, I too think it can be done. No experience though, and probably won't since I have 3 kilns. (2 glass, 1PMC).

I believe I saw reference to it in The Art of Enameling by Linda Darty, which I have (and am now too lazy to go downstairs and get it.) This book is great for the ooohhhhh factor and has how tos. BTW, if you buy it, go thru Amazon.com---I bought mine thru delphi and another for a friend at Amazon at a much better price. I'll probably try some enamelling on PMC when I get around to it. My work right now is a mix of PMC, fused glass elements etc. I'm also experimenting with polymer clay transfers (color) for use in PMC designs and my oil paintings.

Hey Linda if you're still out there,
I finally went downstairs to check bring the book up (what can I say...I have one of the few basements in FL and 2 bad knees). There is 2/3 pages about firing enamels w/a torch. Enamel can be fired into the clay too to shift silver color, but I'm unsure of how much etc. to what effect. You may want to check the PMC guild site. Probably one thing you may want to be careful of if you do either is to make sure you DO NOT immerse the PMC into H20, but let it cool naturally so there are no stress cracks due to the inclusion of glass.
