I was going to say that it looked a lot like Milton Avery... but that's only because it IS by Milton Avery!

He's actually quite an under-rated artist. In a way he reminds me of Morandi, quietly continuing to do what he loved regardless of the direction of the larger "art world":

I guess that's why he's known as the "American Matisse"! I agree that he is underrated. He's also interesting because he was an influence on artists like Rothko and Gottlieb.

Some of the works shown here, realy does reflects Rothko's remarquable colours.

I love Morandi a lot ... tranquility, slow-progression and continuity
