Amanda, I don't know anything about varnishing, but as for the pic you have captured a very shy but excited boy. I think you have a good rendering here , all the way down to the belly button Thanks for sharing it

really nice Amanda, the belly is as it should be, very good painting, I am not sure about varnishing either, although I have been varnishing my paintings with soluble gloss varnish for acrylics which I quite like - Mike

Amanda, only reason I haven't commented is I'm concentrating on easter egg hunting Was gonna go back and browse slowly later!!! I love your background I always love the PNG kids' eyes, they're always big as saucers!! ( His eyes seem kind of blue though, ) I agree with kokopelli, He does look kinda excited... never noticed till she commented

Hi gnu and MF sutton, thanks for your comments. This little boy lives in the middle of the PNG jungle and I visited his tribe in Sept last year. He was very shy but kind of posed for my photo.
About those eggs, I thought I was going great at around 350 until someone posted that they have over 1300. I think they've won so I'm not bothering anymore!!!
Oh, and the eyes aren't blue, it's just a bad photo, they are big and brown!

I know this was awhile ago but
Your rendering of the belly has such volume to it like a stomach is and that I think which is most apealing in this piece but to me also your drawn there because of its gigantic size but seems to mee the eyes seem blurry in comparison....

Re: Papua New Guinea Boy
Dear Amanda.
I like your painting very much because it radiates life, joyfulness and happiness.
I believe that when a painter is able to bring to life a human being on a painting, as you have done, further considerations, like techniques, do not matter.
As to your question concerning varnishing. Personally I prefer to varnish all my works, if only for their protection.
Congratulations. I will love to see some more of your paintings.

Thank you both for your replies. As with other paintings the photo doesn't show this as true to life as the real thing. The painting is a bit darker and they eyes are definately not blurry. Thanks for your input, it's appreciated.
