Re: Pastel Portrait

I love the colors you used -- they give the impression of her childish energy, even though she is still (that's my first reaction, anyway). I also like her eyes and the whispiness of her hair, which is tough. Her nose seems just a tad crooked to me, though, and the sharp line under her nose and around her lips seem to steal attention away from her eyes, in which you have really put a spark and a thoughtfullness. Great work! I'd love to see more of your portraits!

Re: Pastel Portrait

Great colours in this! I think her forehead might be a bit big, or her facial features too small...hard to say without reference. Really love your stlye though! Great work

Re: Pastel Portrait

This is BEAUTIFUL!! I love the eyes and the colors. I am new to WC and this makes me want to try pastels again. If you ever decide to do that step by step for beginners..count me in. Did you use oil pastels, soft pastels or the chalky type?

Re: Pastel Portrait

this is really nice and a great use of colors in the face and background. My one suggestion for future portaits would be to have your strokes follow the contours of the face rather than all go in once direction

Re: Pastel Portrait

First of all, thank you all for yur replies. It encourages me to keep on going and paint and paint and paint and POST.

Dany you are right about the nose, I am working on it. I am glad I kept her looking young in the portrait, not easy.

Mandy, I thought her forehead was a bit big also I will double chek that although I think it id right.. maybe darkening the hair on the edges near the skin?

Angela, I used first layer with hard chalky pastels and second and thrid layer with soft chalky pastels. Rembradt pastels on Sennelier pastel paper.
I will give some hints on a thread soon about steps to approach a colorfull skin tone, which is something I had trouble with and have leared here at WC, There is one strating on friday by Dollardays, Nora. Don't miss it.

Jerome, I had a little trouble with the lips since she had a weird expression in her mouth, I was worried about it. Guess it turned out right.

Terry, I have been fighting with colors, but getting there and trying to play the strokes one way, is that wrong? I tried to go different ways once and it was very difficult but I am definetely going to try again. I just finished another one of my husband with more mixed way strokes. Will see

Thank you all again,

Jackie

Re: Pastel Portrait

Lovely colors. I would soften the nose's lines.
The right side of her forehead (our right side), I think should be a little more in shadow, like her cheeks and neck.

Re: Pastel Portrait

Thank you Janet. I did her forehead darker..dark enough?
and soften the lines in her nose and fixed her nose, it was a bit crooked.

Re: Pastel Portrait

Looks much better now with the shading. It blends better with the rest of her face. It's beautiful.
