Hi and Welcome to Classical Art Journey Week 25!

We'd love to see your studies of classical art.
Any media or skill level is welcome to participate on our journey.

I didn't get a chance to search out some obscured artist I'd never heard of so guess who this is?

hehe, yep couldn't resist starting out with Fat Cat. A grandkitty.

Now guess who? A real classical artist. No fair right clicking on the pic

Don't you just love the light on his hat?

Re: Week 25 Classical Art Journey

Hi!... I'm sorry I haven't anything new for now... thank you so very much for your kindness and sympathy!
I'll try to work hard this week so I can post in something "classical"... I'm fond of you all and see you love cats... how nice! I love them too! .. so I'd like you to see my good old Birba!
She's 18! In the first photograph she is younger ..

the other is a recent one!... she loves rubbing her furry self around human legs asking for food!

Here she really looks like a wild cat!
Hope you love her as much as I do ...

Thanking you again for the good company

Mony

Re: Week 25 Classical Art Journey

Hey Rose!
Hey Mony, cool cat, love the wild and sweet look.
Hope your week is good.
Hi Susan, Hi Barbara,
hope you all have a nice week ahead.
Any ideas who you are going to study this week?
I've finished the Cassett study, but I am not sure if I am ready to go back
to the moonlight study or not.
I am leaning toward maybe a study of Peale.

Peale would be cool Nickel. I have couple of sketches in pencil from him that I thought I could do a painting of, just cant decide which one yet.

Re: Week 25 Classical Art Journey: After Degas

I've fallen behind in my contributions to this journey but hope to get back on track. A weekend attempt to sketch in public proved to me how much I need to work on drawing, so I have a new commitment. Started with this pencil copy of Degas' study for his painting of Young Spartans. Guess which is the original. Ha! Robert

Re: Week 25 Classical Art Journey

Pretty Good Drawing Robert, really good proportions to his. That is a hard one to study because the shapes look a little distorted to start in Degas' but he is a good choice to study. It is really hard for me to work the shadows in with sketch pencils, ((is that what you used)) it seems so much easier/faster to do with paint. But I am with you, drawing is always good. Are you still drawing/ painting from life too?

Re: Week 25 Classical Art Journey

very nice Tyree, groupings can be very difficult but you have certainly done a good job. Good going Robert. When I skectch there are some days I have it down and some well we won't go there. A difficult pose done well.

meowwww... Artists like cats because they are happy just being in the room. Not always begging for a walk or a bisket. An occasional scratch behind the ear is just fine,

Re: Week 25 Classical Art Journey

Hi everybody... just popping in for a look and to say hello!
I've been pretty busy lately with my troubles and the art school exibition... I'm glad to say my drawings had good success , more than my oils ! Somebody suggested me to try to get as good at oil painting as I am in drawing... but.. as I have just started painting in olis , it could be a good aim for me in the future (I think)
Robert's nude is OK, a bit more stretched than Dega's original one , but drawing the human figure isn't really the easiest thing in the world although I consider it one of my favourite subjects, real challenging!
Tyree's group is well done too...

Good bye for now to all of you cat lovers, I'm too busy to draw in these days, tried something by Caravaggio again but wasn't in a good mood ... be reading from you in a while !

Mony
