kathakali dancer - X posted in soft pastels forum

kathakali is a famous classical dance-drama form unique to Kerala in south India. It is a exquiste for of art and a joy to watch. It is very similar to an opera depicting a famous scene from Hindu mythology. There is no verbal communication and the music is unique as well.

The makeup is the highlight of the show and it takes hours to put on. It is in the Guinness book of world record as the thickest makeup for a performing art. One of the ancient forms of face painting.

This is my first attempt at a portrait. I would greatly appreciate your C&C.

WOW! Fantastic! The detail and colors are so wonderful! It almost looks like a photograph especially when you focus on the reflections in the green areas. Lovely work.

I thought the same thing. At first I thought it was the photo. I think you have done a great job. How long it took you to finish this with so much detail?

Nancy, Janet - Thanks for your comments. Glad you liked it.

It took about 30 hours or so to finish.
