FND March 8
6"x 7.5" Charcoal pencil on 140 lb wc paper
Took almost the whole 2 hours. I liked the lines and patterns in this one, and just wanted to try to do the water spray. Would have liked it a little darker, but am not too unhappy with it.

Good going - water to me is very hard to draw like that when it is in action.

Great job on a tough subject. Love what you've done here, Ruth! When I looked at this photo I liked the way the water was being thrown off the bird but realized it would be tough to do ... glad you did it and showed me it really IS possible!

Great Water, Ruth! It was an interesting image to do - I thought it was one of the hardest but your water looks better than the ref. picture. Fabulous!!

You really made the water look real - this was a tough one and you handled it very well. Glad you showed us how it's done.

Thank you all for your encouraging comments.
I thought of the water as a pattern, and worked on the negative shapes. I tried to follow the direction the water was falling in from each wing and from the curve of the body.
I did think of drawing it upside down because it was the lines and the patterns I was after, but didn't quite have the nerve.

Thank you Caron. It must have been you thinking of me that helped.
The living room carpet will be cleaned on Tuesday, and then I have the pleasure of moving everything back.
Thank you Wingnut.

Great work, you have captured each splash and ripple as the water cascades of the penguin, water is very difficult
