Re: Project Discussion: Out of Africa
Great project for someone "within Africa". Lately, I have been working more on people and portraits but wildlife is naturally very close to me. Unfortunately I cannot post any progress paintings, as I have just moved and most of my painting material is still in storage

What a brilliantly executed work showing the animal in it's natural environment. This is fantastic!

You've got some serious talent here! I love all your entries. They have a very realistic style while retaining your own stamp. The brilliant use of colour in the grass and the density of the shadows are excellent.

Oh man, I wanna be you when I grow up! That grass is amazing, the cheetah is fabulous too, but it's just so wonderful to see the surroundings given such skillful attention as well, they are after all, part of the animal. Lovely lovely job.

Eye of the Beholder
I love the close-up and when I see something like this I think: "have to try" or "have only done two elephant paintings so far - must do some more" A great work is such an inspiration! Thanks

Where did you see these lions? They look Southern Africa. I like the softness and harmony it portrays.

Young Leopard
Although my preference is blending the subject into the background, this approach in leaving the background out works very well in your case, especially with only part of the animal showing.

Zebra
Zebras are so fun to paint, especially in Watercolour, because of the play of light and shadow in their graphic pattern. Love this portrait
