ballerina challenge
I don't really know how to start a project but, since Jaytee, Ruth, Jean, and Jo are thinking about painting Violet, I thought I'd start a thread. I posted the high resolution photo in the reference library where it is awaiting approval. It's named "The Little Ballerina" and in People/Children.
The hardest part of this challenge is that I have to paint her also and I've never painted people - well not counting the upside down vendor that Jean had us do in 20 minutes or the skier in 10 - and the vendor had robes and my skier was only humanoid
So here's the photo and when the high res one in the library one is approved I'll let you know.

Oh Amelia............. that's put me on the spot Money will now have to go where mouth is There is so much there that cries out for a paintbrush. Do you have any other 'poses' ? I feel a tryptych coming on

Re: ballerina challenge
Hooray!!! How am I going to paint this Now I've got to
Janet, I took 74 pics at the recital. I'll post them to a website and let you see what you like. Many are not really painterly but a few might be. I'll post here when I get them up.

Jean will LOVE that
We could call the challenge... 'After Degas'

Re: ballerina challenge
What an interesting (tough) subject. More Rodain's Ballerina than Degas.
If you look closely at the figure you can see the body of the dancer in outline through the translucent skirt. This would be very helpful when drawing as you can draw the figure and then add the skirt.
I suspect it will be hard to make it look believable as the child's arms being up mean that the skirt is way above it's normal position on the body. The artist will have to make this high skirt look normal.
Good luck
Edit time
Amelia I have taken the liberty of straighening the figure so that the door in the background is not tilted. I hope this is OK by you.

Re: ballerina challenge
I quite like the title:- "The Little Ballerina Challenge"
I might have a go but it could take me 3 months to post the result!
Well, at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it

Re: ballerina challenge
Thanks Roger for straighening.
Tricia, sounds reasonable to me
Because Jaytee wanted to see more poses I put all the photos up on the Kodak Gallery. http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?&conn_speed=1&collid=68375930303.104 030266303.1148696836049&mode=fromsite If that link doesn't work for you and you send me your email address I can add you to the invitation list and Kodak will send you an email to see the photos.

Patty, it's not my place to tell anyone how to paint this subject but I think you would be much better off thinking of this a figure and not a portraint.
IMO you could blank the face and the picture would still 'work'. Just my opinion.
Where are we expected to post the paintings?
