Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

Well, I thought maybea I should post an intro here as I've starting posting on this forum again. It's been a few years since I've been here. Got a little busy I guess! Here' smy 5 bits about me:

1. My name is Sarah, happily married for 12 years, and I'm a stay-at-home-momma to 5 snuggly kids, 1 boy and 4 girls, currently aged 9, 8, 4 and 3 year old twins.

2. I love to paint, mostly decorative stuff, but I have done a few murals in the past. I've struggled with the whole being an artist thing, particularily because my parents and both my brothers are all unbelievably talented visual artists and I was always "the musical one", so I came to the visual arts later in life.

3. I love to bake, but have to limit it because I also love to eat what I bake!

4. I am a total computer-a-holic and use it to procrastinate A LOT! Especially when there's laundry to do.

5. I looooooove to read. My current favourite author is Ted Dekker. I'm an all or nothing kind of girl though, so I'll read a whole book through ignoring whatever else needs to be done. I tend to go in reading fits and spurts because of this - I get reading overload, and sometimes the laundry really DOES need to get done! :P

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

Hi Sarah Welcome back!! Hats off to you for finding some time for yourself and your art! When my kids were little I did very little artwork of any kind!!
And I can completely relate to your reluctance to call yourself an 'artist' I think most of us feel that way! .... It's one indication that we ARE artits, I think!
Look forward to seeing you around the forum!

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

Hello fellow Decorative Artists.

My name here is Learning Curv, but my real name is Pat

1. I am 55, have been married twice, though, the latest (13) years ago is wonderful. I have a 27 year old daughter who works with me, primarily on finishes.

2. I have been painting since I was 10, but started in a Mural and Finish business about 15 years ago. I have been successful until this fall, when it has slumped off.

3. I too, love to procrastinate, If there is anything to do besides paint that piece of furniture, make that sketch of two birdhouses, or those constant sample boards, I will find it. Including posting on forums!

4. I make homemade wine, with a group of friends, and naturally enjoy drinking it, and cooking with it.

5. I can't sleep unless I read first. I think it started when I was little, having stories read to me. Now I read myself to sleep every night. If the book is good like, an Anne Tyler , Joyce Carol Oates, Wally Lamb, John Irving, Pat Conroy, Margaret Atwood, or yes! I love Elmore Leonard, and John Grisholm. Anyway, if the book is good I sleep less!

This forum is like 5 in one and am enjoying it immensely. Pat

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

1. My name here is BarbaraInFlorida-I am meeting so many Barbara's out there now!-originally from Ohio. I am 62 this year and my birthday is in March. I have now been married to my Prince Charming, my split-apart, my best friend, for 15 years- Jerry. We have 3 girls between us 42-32-22 and all girls married or with partner and 5 grandchildren between my two. They are scattered from Denver to Virginia Beach to one mile away from our home in Florida where we have been for the past 3 years. We usually do most everything together. He says I am his only hobby and I love it!

2. I have always done some kind of art or craft; leather carving, Ukrainian Eggs, pen and ink, try most anything-colored pencil, pastels. Not really good at anything though I do sell my eggs as far away as Australia. We used to have 15 bird feeders in Ohio and up to 3 dogs at a time. Here, we are on a pond, we watch nature and have decided not to have any more pets so we can pick up and go whenever we like.

3. Miniature animal figurines have been a passion since a child (thanks Mom!). I used to collect a lot more different things but have had to pare down after our move-there is only so much room. I love to read and do so in books and online. I love researching things online and have lost whole afternoons checking new things out. I take tons of photos and have really gone nuts since digital came along.

4. We love movies and use movie quotes all the time. (see sig tag) Favorites are comedies and action but a good animated is high on the list too. Example- my husband's favorites are Snow White and Multiplicity and the Die Hards with Indian Jones close behind. My fave movie is The Big Country, the classic western, and currently Flushed Away-those singing slugs crack me up. The new Bond is fantastic! My computer desk is in the living room so we can be together even more and I am constantly looking up an actor because we are saying "don't we know them from something else?" and we have to KNOW.

5. We like to eat out but nothing spicy. Jerry likes a good steak and I love baby back ribs and the portobello mushroom burger at The Loop. We enjoy museums and Walt Disney World and have passes and go whenever my husband can get off. I am retired now because the call center for relay for the deaf (TTY/TDD) closed. Before that I drove a school bus for 25 years, worked as a long distance and information operator, waitress and babysitter and went to Kent State University for a BA in Education. I am loving having time to actually get in to something artistic-in between all the reorganizing I seem to always be doing.

I am liking WC very much and am trying not to be too intimidated by the awesome talent here.

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

Hello, I figure I'd post in here and tell a little about myself

I started out when I was a kid in bodyshops as a bondo-painter, this transended into 14 years in the sign business where I started as a painter and went to graphic design and eventually as a salesman(something I didn't think I could do).
Bored to tears with my sign occupation I started working with a wonderful lady that showed me how to do decorative painting, cabnet glazing and furniture antiquing.
Recently relocated to Fort Lauderdale from Atlanta, I've been sculpting various foams and airbrushing over the last couple years and looking to combine all my knowledge from past jobs and start a "Theming" company that would include 3-d murals and custom signage.

I love that there's such a place as wetcanvas with such talented and positive people to be inspired and learn from.

I also do pen and inks for fun.

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

Hey yall I'm Angie from Georgia, south of Savannah on the coast. I have 2 beautiful girls a doggie and a badddd cat. I started drawing and using pastels when I was 36...have gradually gone to acrylics because of the ease of cleanup. Pastels are great but so dusty in my small home!

I have been reading your threads on murals because I have recently been asked to come bid a project (i am so very intimidated! ) Expect LOTS of questions...
