Exclamation devotion drawing

<IMG SRC="http://www.wetcanvas.com/Critiques/User/image.jpg" border=0>

This is a drawing I did for practice of a plaster cast ornament that we have at my workplace. The ornament is named 'devotion', and if someone is having a bad day we 'present' it to them, to help cheer them up.

This was done on cartridge sketch paper and graphite pencil (2B I think).

Any comments and advise gratefully received.

Thanks

Karen

Karen, the composition is good, but the graphite is so light. It makes it hard to see the faces clearly. This may be partly the scanner. They tend to wash things out sometimes. I would suggest that you go back in and add value to really bring the whole piece alive.

Sassybird and nnelson1,

Thanks for your comments.

Unfortunately, I'm not an expert with computers or scanners.

The programme we have with the scanner has a basic and advanced section. At the moment I have only managed to conquer the basic one. Will work on the advanced, I did try it last week, but didn't have a clue and got stuck in advanced part.

I think that is very light sassy, partly because of the scanner, but the original wasn't a lot deeper to begin with.

I'll keep on practicing though.

Best wishes

Karen

Nice rendering!
Something else you may wish to experiment with is playing with the scanned image. Use different effects, color levels, contrasts, etc., to get some wild ideas and to also let you make changes to the drawing that are "erasable". An effect I like to use in PaintShop Pro is to take a drawing I've done and then let the program "make a drawing" out of it using the charcoal or black pencil settings. Lots of fun and can be quite inspirational.
Anyway, very good job.
Keep it up!

Cheers!

Nick
