Very nice! Like the way you did the hair and the colours in the skin. It's somehow very "light" just think the white highlight on the ear stands out too much.

Re: Sketch of Evan

Ah! seems to me I have already met Evan on here? He looks to be a sweet little boy. The painting is marvelous, the high color is masterful! The white on the ear: Initially my eye/mind says that it is tooooo hot! But when I cover it up, it seems to have been the motor that drives the other colors! Can it be brought down the tiniest bit and still be effective? So much beauty in a small space!

Re: Sketch of Evan

Fantastic! The young boy's skin and hair just glows with health.
As for the 'critique', What we see here is probably not exactly what we would see in 'real life' but on first glance, the white on the ear really does draw the eye, also I found the back of the neck too bright too, making it look like he's got a really skinny neck. As I said, it may be due to the problem of photographing and uploading, if not, I would put just a little colour there to solidify the balance of the neck versus the size of the head.

Re: Sketch of Evan

Beautifully done. The only thing that bothers me is that the neck looks too skinny. I also wonder if the cheek line between nose and mouth needs a bit of rounding?

Superb. I wondered if the eyebrow was a little off at this angle - almost seems on bridge of nose - but it's fine.

Your talent, and your love for your subject matter, are very evident.

I hope Evan grows up to appreciate the fine art he is a part of.

Re: Sketch of Evan

Believe it or not....I have no crits! I think it's perfect as is. That white on the ear tells me the time of day, the temp and posture of the child. Beautiful work! Can't stop staring at it.

If you can't tell, I'd say leave it and frame it. It's perfect, IMHO.

And a big welcome to WC!

YES YES YES YES YES!
This one is stunning!

(Do you dare diminish the outline a bit in front of the eye and neck? I do believe we don't actually need it to figure out the contour. This piece is an absolute delight in color and modelling!)

Re: Sketch of Evan

Sorry this is late, but my daughter just had my third grandson -- more painting to do!!! I would like them to turn out just like yours though. This is just wonderful! I feel like I know Evan just from your work. I can only hope my attempt at children's portraits will be half as good. You sure make pastel work for you. Gippy.

Re: Sketch of Evan

This is beautiful! The light on his neck and ear don't bother me...it shows me it was a very bright day and the colors are wonderful. You should cross post this in the pastel forum.
