Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Tami, I say this in awe, you are one scary lady!

Diane, Torching was good until it got too hot. 90 degrees plus today.

Ali, A scary thought!

Sueze, Sounds like you had a good weekend and I'll take sunshine with a chill over gloomy grey skies any day. Our nice sunny weather is behind us and the heat is here. Maybe we'll have another sweatshirt day. I can hope.

As I told Diane, I torched until I couldn't stand the heat any longer. Then I took a two hour nap this afternoon. End of the semester tired I guess. I have my placement for fall. Makes me laugh because I asked for junior high or high school. I'll be in a kindergarten class! Taught kinder for six years and in hindsight, I was awesome at it. Have to start practicing my songs again. It's been a lot of years. It is a mod/severe class. I'll be meeting with my Cooperating Teacher and the principal this week.

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Heat...yes, I vaguely remember that. Think we had some a few weeks back, but haven't seen it since *sigh* On another note, when you say mod/severe K kiddos, do you mean autism spectrum? Or multiply handicapped? We used sign language with the MH kids I used to work with; i still have the book if you think you may need it.

What is "chainsaw day" Tami?

Bugger. I can't seem to upload pics from the iPad. I took a couple of photos of the new nest. Looks like they are just about finished - I am a bit surprised they built it literally outside my front door. I can't wait till we have lil nestlings!

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Alli, I won't know any more on the classroom until I meet with my master teacher. I'm guessing multiple handicapped. At this point, getting my Autism certification is a goal, but I'm going to see how these placements go, what kind of job I get in a year, and what all I have to do for my Masters and all. One day/step at a time. Wish it was easier to load pictures onto this site!

Hey, everyone! Sounds like all is going great!
Maggie, will the children you work with be integrated with the rest of the student body? All of the children we worked with spent time in the regular classrooms not matter the disability or the severity of it. That might not be the "thing to do" any more. The models change so much over time.

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Mallory, It's called "inclusion" now and I know there are so many theories on it. Think I finally got my brain/mouth to stop saying mainstreaming. I have no idea what goes on at the school or district I'll be with. Since it's not my classroom, I'll just be going with the flow for a semester. In California, inclusion is happening and again, just depends on the school/district policies. Once I have my own classroom and school, I am going to make sure my students are part of the school community. I have this vision of trying to bridge the gap between gen ed and sped and I can see not being popular from the start, but like a virus, I'll grow on them! Such lofty goals!

Was going to torch today, but I'm feeling like I need to catch up on laundry and stuff I've been neglecting. Should have gotten an earlier start if I wanted to torch.

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Had to switch servers to post this pic. My latest mixed media piece. I have this goal of making beads to go with my art work. Need to start making a list of what needs to be made or sketching bead ideas. For this, maybe a star or a wand.

Make a Wish

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

No need to fear. We had rain and chainsawing was cancelled. It looks like rain again. Which we desperately need so that's good.

Ali, my method of pruning is to use the electric chainsaw. Mainly because I can't seem to work the lopers very well, and perhaps I don't prune often enought.

Maggie, wonderful fairy god mother. She has that look like she's really going to give you what you need regardless of what you wish for. Great bit of attitude. Inclusion? You will have your job cut out for you. Though I hope everyone is getting more open minded these days. I was headed to the shop till you mentioned laundry... Dang it.

Hi Mallory!

Better run before the couch drags me over for a nap.

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Tammy, Thanks for reminding me that I never started my laundry! Have my first load going now. Thinking there are two to follow. If you ever come visit, please bring your chainsaw. I have those darn neighbors trees that are intruding. My brother has cut them back some, but the darn things keep on growing. The nerve!

Sold a few more shells. I've sold 31 so far this month! Crazy good! Just paid $4.09 a gallon for gas and I'm thinking I may just do the Oregon coast this summer. Stay with my bro for free and sell my shells and other stuff at their farmers market. Two years down, one to go without a salary and I'm needing to be extra careful for a change. Good thing I still have a ton and a half of glass to melt! Keep thinking I need to sell some of my presses, but I just haven't taken the time to go through them. Maybe next week.

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

I've sorta caught up on what's going on here but my right eye has been bothering me so I'm saving the close-up stuff for the torch.
I love the pictures and keep wondering why it's so hard to load pictures here but maybe I don't understand that because I have trouble taking the time to take pictures and then there is always the down loading them to the computer and cropping them. I'm tired just thinking about it, so I'm extra appreciative of the ones you all post here.

Maggie you don't happen to have a Catwalk lentil press your wanting to get rid of do you??

Tami we could use you and your chain saw skills with a plum tree we'd like to get rid of. Fred had all the branches cut off a few years ago and didn't get around to rening a chainsaw and now you'd never no that it had been almost branchless. Fortunately it bloomed before the bees arrived this year.

Karen could you put some of that energy in an envelope and send it to me please

Alli glass spaghetti hmm

Mallory do you have your new glasses yet?

This doing a show is just too much, I have been measuring, washing and weighing yarn for days and I haven' even finished the first shelf/box and many more to go if I can get another table. I have about 18 sheep made so far and I hope that's not enough lol I'm still waiting for some of that spring warm weather so I can get the doors and windows open all over the house and not have to heat the studio.

Well it's off to bed now sorry if I missed you as I'm sure I have.

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Just a quick good morning before I turn on my kiln.

Sueze, There's a part of me that keeps thinking about shows and then I remember all the work that goes on before, during, and after. No way I can do them while student teaching so I'll just enjoy being a looky loo-er.

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Hey maggie congrats on the sales.. that is crazy good! love your mixed media painting! nice job!
I can relate to the neighbors trees intruding.. and the attitude from them about it all... we spoke to them once and they agreed to trim.. but now the darn thing is leaning /growing right into our yard.. whats up with that! so we will have to have another chat. the darn thing has berries late in the summer and its wanting to grow over our camper... just a messy thing.. not to mention branches breaking off during winter storms.. I suppose we could just cut it.. did you talk to your neighbors first?

Hi sueze.. thank you so much!

not much going on.. I have the day off.. and stressing a bit since we will be going to umass for the massive graduation... I guess 5000 grads.. and all the families... yuk.. Hate crowds.. but on a happy note ,so proud of DD. She got through it.. and even has a job lined up.. Now just finishing up on moving her out... tell me why a girl can accumulate so much crap? we have been moving her home now for about 6 weeks... a load a week... geez.
So we also have to do that... anyhow.. the whole school is on friday.. then her own/portion of the school will have smaller ceremonies on saturday.. sigh.. not a big fan of crowds.. oh ya said that already...

ok.. I really need to get something done today... but wanted to stop by... I so want to torch. but the house cleaning and bill paying needs me so I guess. I"ll get to it... have a nice day!

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Diane, Congrats to DD! How wonderful that she has a job lined up already. Does this mean she won't be coming back home to live? Sorry about those big crowds. I know you will survive because of your love and pride of DD.

Karen, Thanks. You are caught up with yard work? I didn't think that was possible. Ever!

Not torching today because I slept poorly and then was able to sleep in. Going to meet with my cooperating teacher this afternoon. I'm not nervous about it, but one of the things I dreamt about was missing the meeting. Sold a couple more shells this morning and I am past the half way mark. Have listed 52. What will I come up with when I get to 100?
