Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Hey all, just want you to know I haven't wandered off. Just lost in school work for the next couple of days!

Used to love making ooblek when I taught preschool and kindergarten. Karen, you so need to make it, even with the 19 year old. We used to flush it down the toilet when finished playing. Not sure I would try that at home!

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Mallory - I have a suggestion if you don't want to wait 2 weeks. I often buy glasses online; I get my Rx from the doctor, then order a back up pair from Zenni optical. You can spend as little as 20$ or so including shipping, get a pair of glasses with the correct prescription and they usually arrive before the ones from the eye doctors arrive.

I envy your kids Karen! My parents are no longer with us, hubby's parents live overseas; we don't have any grandparents to drop the Monkeybutt off at when we need to be somewhere. Yes, there is babysitters, but it's just not the same.

Ok, I'm about to completely give up on the Messy Azure. I LOVE the color, but I'm on my 4th rod and it's still popping and devitrifying. I sent an email to Kathy at CIM, and I'm hoping she has some advice, but at this point I'm doubtful as I cannot thinks what else to do to keep it from burning, other than not use it. Even my ivories don't act like this!

Time for bed; got a busy day tomorrow *grin* I am so psyched to be finally taking a class! Nite all!

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

A quick hello before I hit the sack. I may be asleep before my head hits the pillow. Not really, but I can wish... Helped a friend edit her paper before finishing mine. No fair, hers is finished! I just have proofreading, revising, intro and conclusion to write, and the resource page to go. That's really nothing considering this is a 14 to 15 page paper. Yes, FIFTEEN PAGES! That's why I've been in hiding. Did play a lot today. Can't think. Nighty night.

Morning! Full moon + thunderstorm since much earlier = wide awake at 4 am. I think I'll try going back to sleep now, but that thunder has been going on for a coupe of hours now. It just won't quit. Any way, morning or good night!

Ali, thanks. I'll check into that!

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Good morning. I'm so exhausted still! Have all of the components of my paper finished, but I'll do a final revision, if necessary, tonight. Don't want to see it, think about it, touch it.... until much, much later.

Going to a small art fair downtown. Katie saw a blown glass vase we are hoping is still there to give her mom (my sis) for Mother's Day. I may buy myself something as a reward for all of the work I have done the last semester. What did you get for straight As? I bought myself a wonderful wood vintage card catalog as my reward for getting into the teaching program. Yes, I can find lots of reasons to reward myself.

Should be here more after tomorrow. Unless of course, I pass out for a few days. Eight days until summer vacation.

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Maggie...nothing wrong with self rewards....I like to reward myself for putting my socks on the right feet sometimes...

Mallory...we also had storms...and really hard down pours...thought we should start building the ark soon.....Hope there is good ventilation on the ark for the torch.....

Alli...wish I could be your on-call grandma....I am for the neighborhood....many of the younger neighbors don't have people living close for emergencies...hugs.

Sandblasting today...so far 3 pieces ready...one more resist to cut....don't know if it will get done today....just waiting until the humidity goes down a little ...the level sometimes affects how the sand comes out ot the pressure pot....Hugs to all...

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Hi campers:

Had a great time today - its so nice to torch with other folk. Learned a few new techniques to try, got to play on a Mega minor, and had myself a ball! I'll definitely be taking another class at some point, not only for the instruction, but for the company!

And when we got home, we noticed a couple of Carolina Wrens on the porch. I tried one of those hanging tomato planters last year. Wasn't successful, but never took it down. The top never completely closed. So guess who is moving in? I'm so excited! They nested in one of my hanging flower pots year before last, but didn't come back last year, so figured they found better digs. Of course, the planter is RIGHT in front of the door, so hopefully they'll be good neighbors...I'll post a pic later of the nest in progress.

Alli

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Hello Sunshine! How I love this time of year, though it may reach 90 today and tomorrow and then I'll be back to complaining.

Just going to start with the post after my last. Too lazy to catch up on the rest.

Karen, You are so sweet to be the neighborhood grandma! Interesting about sandblasting and the humidity. My bead release is always cracky on those humid days.

Alli, How exciting that you got to play on a big girl torch. It is nice torching with a group, you learn so much and glass people love talking about glass. Other people, not so much. Neat news about the nest.

I did the final edit this morning, just a period in the wrong place and two sentences that needed changing. Now it's just a matter of turning it in. Yay! Plan on torching the rest of the week. Another Yay!

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

It must have been a great weekend because I seemed to be busy. The sun was so nice but with the cold wind it never felt like the 15c that the thermometer said it was. I've been getting skeins of yarn ready for the sale at the end of the month. I had to wash a bunch (still more to do) because I didn't do it when I finished it and a lot of them have no tag telling me what type of wool it is Man I have a lot of handspun yarn. I have also been making more sheep beads. Saturday was Fred birthday so yup it was a busy weekend. So glad it's Monday and I can rest Oh I also got my hair cut, I haven't had it cut in over 2 years and it was longer than I had it as a teen. Long story short I love it.

I must need anothe lattte I can't remember anything I have read I guess I'll have to come back and reread it. Maybe after I sit in the sun drinking my latte.

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Important word of advice.

If you are making stringers at your kitchen table where you torch, make sure when you make angel hair pasta for dinner that you do not put one of the tan colored stringers which fell on the floor into the cooking pot...

Re: Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House

Just poppin' in to catch-up.

Allie, Sounds and looks like you are having a blast. And thanks for the glasses tip, I'll have to check that out too.

Sueze, I'm so excited you are doing a show. Lots of work I'm sure. I love your sheep.

Diane, I do dig the vintage look. Also the tribal look. Definitely something to consider.

Karen, I was envious till I saw potty-training. Just kidding, Are you posting any pictures of your sandblasting?

Carlos, I think I have all those books except for the bathroom reader. Is it good?

Mallory, Hope they glasses come in sooner than predicted. Saw your weekend pictures on your blog. What a great time. We are total Mythbuster Fans.

Maggie, congrats on finishing your paper! Gotta go check out your seashells of summer. Such a fabulous idea.

I have promised myself a shop day or two here if I can get that list to change from To-Do to To-Done. Alas, my neglected homestead. It's Chainsaw day today, and for some reason that just makes me happy. Better run. Everyone have a great day.
