Newbie Glass Help and Coffee House
Is there any interest in having newbie exercise work sheets for beginners? I have been tossing around this idea for a while in my head and have meant to post about it and ask. It would involve a weekly list of things to accomplish. Anyone interested?
Years later, as this thread has changed in many wonderful ways over the years, I (Maggie, aka BeadTowne) am adding a link to a list of most of the exercises that were worked on: newbie exercises.
As the internet changes daily, there are no promises attached on how long these links will be active. That's up to the original tutorial writers.
That said, this is a wonderful place to hang out, ask questions, share your experiences, and get to know some of the most amazing people. EVERYONE is welcome to join in as much, as little, forever long as needed.

Re: Newbie Work Sheets?
Not an exchange, more like something you have to work on? That would be a great idea. If I have these tasks to complete I get much more done and I challenge myself much more.
Can I assist you someway?
Best regards
Eva

Re: Newbie Work Sheets?
As a somewhat newbie...(5 months ) I think that would be a really great idea and I would help in anyway that I can too! The reason I think it would be a great idea is simply because from a "newbie" stand-point, many times I sit behind my torch, fire it up, and have no clue what I am going to make mainly because there are so many methods I know I have barely skimmed the surface on what techniques to use...therefore I get stuck in a rut on either frit beads all the time or what ever...(does that make sense?)
Anyways, great idea and if you need help from me please let me know!

Re: Newbie Work Sheets?
I am thinking that we would start with basics and go from there. Have a weekly work sheet with posted progress pics and self evaluations.
Mary... send e an email... not a pm... k?

Re: Newbie Work Sheets?
What I did when I first started out is I would concentrate on one discipline for 4-5 days. That might be a too anal for some but I find that within a few days, you can get really good at the new technique. By the end of the week, you are ready to move on to a new discipline.

Re: Newbie Work Sheets?
It sounds like a neat idea.......this of course is coming from someone who has never done any lampwork at all.........stained glass and fusing is all I have done but I am DYING to get into lampworking!!! We are getting ready to sign papers on our new house (20th of march) and I'm figuring I will start there.
We have a place about 2 hours away that I could take a class.......its 155 for the class and some supplies. Did anyone here just go for it and self learn?? Anyone have any peticular place they would recomend for a "kit" I could purchase?? I am SO wanting to try this but I guess I'm a bit neverous........Your Idea would be awesome for someone new!!!

I think that is a good idea, Ruth, I certainly could do with some stractured practice.

Re: Newbie Work Sheets?
I think it's a wonderful idea. I also sit in front of the torch not really knowing what I am doing, and not really trying new things. A to do list would force me to learn.
Great idea! Can't wait.

I think its an absolute wonderful idea....as a newbie myself I have had some questions but afraid to post them. I have looked everywhere on here for some self help or some ideas and i'm clueless...any work sheets with a simple idea of how to do would be great for me!!!!

Re: Newbie Work Sheets?
Sounds like HOMEWORK to me Are we going to be graded and have to turn in our assignments (beads) to Ruth for grading? Hmmm smart thinking Ruth Seriously tho I think its a great idea. You could post the "assignment" each week. After a few weeks we could "graduate" and do some kind of swap for our graduation gift!

Re: Newbie Work Sheets?
I would appreciate a worksheet. Sometime back, on WC, there was a bead thing where you made beads, ie a plain one, one with dots, etc and sent them in. That would be a good start for a worksheet.
