Extreme watercolour - A NOVEL INVENTION
I've just started a truly unusual watercolour project via my blog.
If you are into watercolour and pushing the envelope, then you'll love this.

Re: Novel Water Charger Invention
Terrific job, John - if only we could learn to use your invention with the same results as you do. I'm certainly going to make one and practice gradations.
This should be made into an article, but in view of the complexity of the Blog, if you don't mind I'll just put a link in my Articles etc Index for the time being.
I think you should be commended first for being so generous in publishing your design and technique for all to use, and secondly for making the instructions so clear and comprehensive.
Mentor point from me certainly!
EDIT: I changed the link to the start of the blog HERE

Re: Extreme watercolour.
John - an excellent idea!! I also enjoyed skimming through your blog stuff and your 2 galleries. Your modern stuff is pretty neat - and I also really liked "The Lost Ring" out of the traditional stuff. I'm going to go searching for the stuff to put together my own charger - lots of potential there.
Thanks
Sue

Re: Extreme watercolour - A NOVEL INVENTION
Hi John,
I have read every word of your thread and enjoyed every minute of it.
I for one will be having a look into building a charger, it certainly has got my grey matter working, it will take time to master the techniques but I'm looking forward to the challenge.
I know where I can get a rabbit water drip feed for nowt, and that's a good start
Thanks Doug for letting us know in the Wash about this thread.

Re: Extreme watercolour - A NOVEL INVENTION
Very impressive.
Have you patented it? I fear you haven't. It's very clever and will I reckon become a must have item. Now where is the nearest pet store.
Thanks for showing.

Well, I want one. But missed the instructions when I looked the other day -- I'll have another look now.

Found them! I've never given anyone a mentor point before, but if I figure out how, I'll do it. I do know how to rate a thread, though.
P.S. Well, I rated it all right, but managed to do the mentor thing wrong: Gave you a Merit point instead!

Re: Extreme watercolour - A NOVEL INVENTION
I've often pondered on the nature of your invention when you've mentioned it before but I never thought of anything like this, yet its so darned simple when you come down to it. I shake my head in awe. I've just been trying some experiments using the principles of the device and I'm really impressed with the results, so I'll certainly be making one just as soon as I can get the bits together. Its going to be interesting to watch how this takes off - it could be the start of a worldwide boom in graduated watercolours!
Well done, you deserve a medal and a kiss from the queen.
Al.

Here is my attempt at making one.
Of couse it does not have the grace of the one made by the master. And of course I could not get the quality dripper bottle as recomended and so the pipe will not have been the correct size so I had to fiddle to get the fill to work.
I think the size of the central hole and length of the inserted plastic tube are critical to making it flow only when it should flow. No drought and no endless drips.
I think it works by capillary action (arround the entry point of the wire) filling the charging tray while the central hole lets and air as needed. I had to reduce the space arround where the wire enters the steel tube as my sizes did not match those of the master. I did this with bluetack but it took a while to get to the correct amount.
I found that a few drips are common just after filling but it settles down after min or so.
I do hope the master (bow to John) has a taken out a patent. Esp for the USA. If not, then John, the world thanks you.
Now of course I have to learn to use it and paint. Ahh painting, I knew there was something that I was supposed to be doing today.
