praying hands update.....???

Kathleen: Well, here they are so far. I'm not sure how much detail I am capable of, but if you see something that dosen't look right to you please offer it up. I'm keeping the clay wet so it is still workable. Can anyone tell me about 'memory in clay' ? Do some clays have better memories than others? Will these fingers go funny in the kiln? I saw somewhere that Bendaini used toothpicks to give support to a sculpture? Is that something I should try?

Max, Thanks for all of your help, I would never have made it this far without you. I'll be sure to give this piece lots of drying time and a slowly heated up kiln.

Maggie - those hand looks so life like it's unreal.

The only feedback I would have is that the position of the hands seem forced and not as natural as they could be. I think this is because you hand them pressed together when you started and than changed your mind a bit to separate. The texture and life like of the sculpture regarding the detail is just great. I would also look at the base again, thicker at the bottom, where the wrists are.

Again those are great praying hands!!

Hi Maggie:

As others are fond of telling me "you've come a long way with your sculpture piece". Bringing the hands to the upright position and adjusting the fingers added a lot of character and interest to your piece. Please keep us informed as to how the firing goes for ya. Congratulations

Best,
Kathy

Yielding, thanks so much for the reply! I've been in a kind of 'holding pattern', hoping for some guidance. I agree that the position of the hands seems forced but haven't yet come up with the solution. If I can't resolve it with this piece I may attempt another. Yes to the base as well , that I can manage. Very helpful comments, thank you.

Kathy, thanks for the encouragement

To Everyone:

There is a thread in 'Animals and Wildlife' that everyone should read, it's called 'Unique way for Wildlife Art to impact youth' by lselier. It's 'chicken soup for the soul'.
