Most popular square canvas size?

I want to order some more of those wonderful custom made canvases! I'd like to choose 2.

What is the best sizes to consider? What's the most poplular to art buyers now?

Thanks for sharing your experience!
Mary

Re: Most popular square canvas size?

I think that squares are very popular right now, Mary. I love doing them, and it looks like you enjoyed it too. Gosh, but which size... they are all so cool. 18x18 is a really nice mid-size. For larger pieces, 24x24 is wonderful.. but fairly big. Gosh.. it's hard to say! I've been doing some tiny 6x6 squares that are really cute for small pieces.

Re: Most popular square canvas size?

I just went over to canvasplace.com to see what they have. In the deepstretched squares, they have some 10x10s and some 20x20s. (if I remember right.. my daughter called, and now I'm not sure of my memory!). Anyway, both those would be neato!

Ok, I had to doublecheck. That was right. And in the shallower gallerywrap, they have a whole bunch more sizes of squares! Gosh.. you are making me want to buy more canvas.

Helen

Re: Most popular square canvas size?

I know what you mean! I got quotes on the mid depth gallery wrapped 20" and 24" squares. Here's the quote..."I sell the 20x20 and the 24x24" in 6-packs as standard (in-stock) items. They're $41 and $45 respectively."

Both sizes sound good to me. I wish I had them now.

I've seen that collectors are wanting the squared art...but these are rather large for shipping. I wonder if there is much difference in size between the 20" and 24"

Can you imagine the luxury of having 6 canvases to paint on?
Mary

I build my own - 48 x 48

I build my own frames - 48" x 48" with a depth of 2.5"
They weigh 20 pounds

I ship them in a wood enclosure

I recently sold the painting seen above and shipped it to Ponce, Puerto Rico

Re: Most popular square canvas size?

Mary, check weights and packaging for postage costs... an 18 inch cavas could be a lot cheaper to ship than a 20 inch or 24 inch, always a good idea to check. I know I had to stop painting over 26 inches due to exhorbitant shipping costs, and 16 x 12 costs are 3/4 of the shipping cost for an 18X14...

Luxury???
I often have 6 or 7 on the go.....
and I try to have 5 or 6 either canvases or canvas and stretcher material ready and waiting at all times. there is nothing worse than finding yourself out of them when you are on a roll....mind you I have an art supply shop 5 mins from the studio 9-6 monday to saturday...and 12 -6 sunday.. so the likleyhood of that is slim..

Re: Most popular square canvas size?

Mary, once you start having extra canvases around, you'll never want to go back! I buy several canvases at once. I love the fact that the canvasplace canvases are sold in six-packs. Last time I bought squares, I got 4x4, 6x6, 10x10, 18x18, and 24x24. I'm out of the 18x18s and 24x24s and want to get some more. Someday I'll probably get some 36x36s for some big works. I haven't done much in the way of really large works lately, and I've never done those in a square. That would be a blast!

One thing, if you get something smaller like 12x12.. you can easily ship them in the free USPS boxes. For fast sales like on ebay, I like to have sizes that are a breeze to ship. I get easily stressed when I'm packing paintings to ship, so I try to keep it easy for myself.

Re: Most popular square canvas size?

Four_of_Nine, I used to build my own, but since I got away from large works I don't...yours look great! Lucky buyers!

Greg, you are right about having canvases ready to go...I keep several onhand all the time too! But I guess I was talking about the wonderful canvases that guy Rupen made for me! Sheer luxury! (I am not hawking his stuff, I'm just excited). Thanks for reminding me about shipping when I choose size...

Helen, when you order the six packs are you happy with the way they are shipped to you?

Absolutely Mary. I've never had a bad experience with their canvases and I love the prices.

Re: Most popular square canvas size?

I recently bought four 12x12 bienfang artfoam boards (meant for painting on, they aren't typical foamboard), three 18x18 cradled birch panels, and three 24x24 canvases (the store didn't have cradled boards that size, which I prefer) anyhow, I think its pretty typical to buy bulk supports.

as far as the best size, I guess medium, 20x20 or 24x24 as was mentioned. not too big, not too small kinda thing.

I once purchased Bienfang 140 lb. paper which I disliked.

Are the bienfang artfoam boards archival or at least acid-free?

Are the birch panels archival?

Thanks.
