Classes, Open Studios where artists can work from life

A lot of members are complaining about finding places to work from life. I was thinking it would be great to have a thread to post about the local life drawing and painting classes and open studios that we know of so we could all share the knowledge.

Who knows I may want to visit Oz one day and it would be great to know of an open studio to drop in on.

Edited to add list:

Australia - Brisbane, Perth, Sydney NSW region, More in Sydney

Belgium - Brussels, Flanders

Canada - Halifax, Nova Scotia

Netherlands (Holland) - Zoetermeer

United Kingdom - UK, England - Rushden, Northampton

United States - Florida, Georgia, Iowa, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Washington State

United States - New York City - Life Classes and Open Studios

OK here are the ones I know of near me. I've been to the Art Students League and Spring Studio but not to the School of Visual Arts.

New York

Art Students League, open drawing M-F 5pm-6:30pm open painting all day Saturday and Sunday. Scheduled monthly classes w/instruction, mornings, afternoon, evenings except no Sat or Sun evening classes. Inexpensive.

Spring Studio, open drawing mornings, afternoons and evenings except no Sunday evening classes. Inexpensive.

School of Visual Arts, address and/or weblink, semester painting, drawing classes with instruction, expensive.

Well Dana, I think the title of this thread should be changed as I thought it was going to be a discussion thread but you are making it into a resource for working from live models.

Anyway if anyone wants to visit Brisbane there is an agency that handles artists models you can go to their website and find all the studios and classes for live models. They even list all the art schools.

Australia - Perth, Fremantle, Alfreds Cove, Wyndham, Sapphire Coast NSW - open studio

This may be a bit out of date as I moved from Perth about 7 mo's ago but these were the ongoing drawing sessions in the area:

Kidogo Arthouse, Fremantle: 8:30am Sunday. Same pose for several weeks.

Atwell Gallery, Alfreds Cove:
Weds: 7:30pm Short poses and one longer one
Sunday: 10am (?) Same pose for several weeks (this one has been a bit iffy over the years)

Printmaker's Gallery (Near PICA): 7:30pm Tues. Short poses to start & 1 longer pose

On the Sapphire Coast of NSW there's a life drawing session every two weeks in Wyndham but it's on Sunday afternoon which is the one time of the week I have a conflict and I can't get there anyways...

FWIW,

don

Washington State - Seattle, Bellevue, Puyallup, - Life Classes and Open Studios

Daniel Smith's art stores in the Seattle and Bellevue, Washington areas have weekly life drawing sessions for $7 (two and a half hours; non instructed) and in the Puyallup, Washington area on Monday nights is an hour and a half session ($5, non instructed, clothed models) at the WWfairgrounds in the Fred Oldfield building. The sessions at Daniel Smith's have been excellent. I've heard that there are life drawing sessions through the Two Towers Art Alliance in Key Peninsula (also in Washington) but I've yet to find out more about them.

I have spoken to the Studio on the phone and the up to date details are

First Sunday of the month 10:am to 1:00pm.

I'll be going this week hopefully...and let you know how it is.

Belgium - Brussels (Flanders) - Life Classes and Open Studios

Brussels is the home of tens of thousands of international citizens working at the European Union Headquarters, NATO Headquarters, or other International Institutions. The Brussels Region is enclosed by Flanders. For those who are looking for life classes in this region, here is a list of Academies of Fine Arts in Brussels and Flanders with their addresses (this site is in Dutch): Name, Street and Town, sorted by their ZIP number. You will find that most people here speak a mouthful of English.

Academies of Fine Arts in Brussels and Flanders

This higher art education with limited curriculum comprises 4 or 5 years at advanced level followed by two years at specialisation level. There is often the choice between day, evening or weekend classes. Options available with life models posing are drawing, painting and sculpting. Registration fee is about 150 euros per year. Everything, except drawing materials, is included in this fee. A certificate or diploma is awarded after successful completion.

If you live in the Down East section of North Carolina... you're @#%*^'d... unless you are willing to drive 2 1/2 hours one way on a Tuesday night.

The closest place I have found is in Raleigh at ArtSpace. However... they do run long poses on Saturdays now and then that would be practical for me.

Check them out here: ArtSpace.

Grat idea with this thread Dana. I think it should form part of a permanent thread so in the months to come it is easy to find, and hasnt got lost simply because no one has contributed to it for a few days or whatever.
