Longfellow Hues

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Longfellow Hues
Year Created: 2005
Medium: Oil
Surface: Board
Dimension: 36
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
Sorry it's not the best photo. My camera is wearing out.

This is oil on 8 hardboards merged together in 3 frames. My question is about the presentation itself... Is this too busy, with too much blur of one painting into the other, or is it complimentary due to the common theme.

I don't have room at home to do large pieces so I sometimes do smaller ones that combine later. I can frame them all separately but merging in frames is... well... cheaper.

This is my first critique post so please be gentle. I started as a hobby in 2002 and I'm untrained. Usually I paint from photos. Thanks

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
My question is about the presentation itself... Is this too busy, with too much blur of one painting into the other, or is it complimentary due to the common theme.

Re: Longfellow Hues

Hi.... This is so interesting and each little painting is so beautifully done. I like it! My only comment would be in the arranging... I think I'd have alternated a warm and cool painting rather that grouping them in twos..... and I also think that they could all be combined into the same frame (with back support, ofcourse). I love to see things like this.... it's almost like a photo album but so much more fascinating! Good job! Donna

Thank you Constellation. I might rearrange the small paintings.

Oh you know, really like that as is.
Salt n pepper bridge. One of my fav cultural city

I like the intense colours in some of them, and combined to some other grey-scales makes it work quite well.

I guess I'mm happy I saw that tonight

Re: Longfellow Hues

I quite like the arrangement of the smaller paintings. The color pattern is nice. However, the placement of the two larger stood out to me. It seemed very color heavy on the left. I switched the larger paintings. I attached an image you could get a feel for the layout without actuallyl having to go to all that work.

This is a great idea though ... they all look great shown together.

What a neat idea. Subject lends itslef well to the concept too. What is the overall size - is it 36" long? how high?

Re: Longfellow Hues

Thank you all, I really appreciate it.

Dhuot - thanks for the compliment to Boston. Actually I was to your city Montreal once and found it has all the charm of Boston PLUS a mountain in the middle. Great place.

sarathered - thanks for the photo example.

Spyderbabe - the smalls are 8x10, the large 16x20, so arranged like this it's 32 high and 40 wide.
