Dragon

Hello all, this is my first post in this forum. I spend some time in the colored pencil and acrylic forums, but I wanted to show this here. It's my first dragon sculpture. It's rather large at 21" by 15". I don't know if I'll glaze it or not. It's just white and red clay.

Re: Dragon

Welcome to the Sculptor's forum

Your dragon is excellent! Did you fire it yet? He looks kind of like a happy dragon. Very nice job and thanks for sharing!

Re: Dragon

Thanks for sharing the Dragon. He looks great. I have been wanting to do a wood carving of one for a long time but have never found a design that I'm really fond of. I just ordered "Carving Fantasy and Legend Figures in Wood" and hopefully that will get me going in the right direction. What do you use in the way of reference materials.

Re: Dragon

He has been fired and the reference material was mostly from my imagination. I'm a big fan of the dragonlance books and I was terrified of Smog when I was a kid so it's my combination of what I thought those two types of dragons would look like. He's not supposed to be "nice", but I like the way he turned out anyway. Maybe painting his eyes black would make him a little more mean.

Re: Dragon

He is hollow I started with a cone of newspaper, he is mostly built with slabs. I finished the neck and then crumpled up newspaper for the head. I built the top and bottom jaw seperately and let them become leather hard before attaching.
