grainsack paintings!

When I went back to school, I had no money for anything else let alone art supplies! I had about 40 sheep in my barn at the time and had a surplus of grainsacks hanging about. The material is actually woven fiberglass, which are not available anymore. I did a series of oils on them. They hold stains well, or can be gesso'd and painted, holding up very well - in fact almost indestructable. For farm scenes, I thought they were appropriate! L.

I think your alternative material is very appropriate for the subject! But I'm not sure if this is finished...or you just have the one cow (which looks really good!) painted in.

How does the fabric wear on the brushes?

Too true. And more recently when working in a school district with no $$ at all! in budget for art, w/500 students a week, we worked a lot with discarded materials. Kids came up w/all sorts of crazy stuff like chicken feather brushes, maple twigs making the best "handles" and of course ducktape. Here's another idea...
