December 2005 Step-by-Step Roses — HOMEWORK

It's the middle of Winter in U.K and yet here I am painting summer roses!

A few friends have asked me if I could share how I paint loose effect flowers so I've just popped a step by step demonstration for this style of painting in the Wet Canvas Learning Zone........and now I am off to paint yet more Roses because I think I should improve my own now!

Re: Summer Roses.

You are a painting machine!!! And each is so absolutely lovely!! There is a signature quality of delicacy to everything you paint. These are so serenely beautiful. I'm headed straight over to look at your WIP.

Re: Summer Roses.

Hi Cheryl. I smile every time I see your user name.

I get confused as to where to post what so I've put a step by step in the Learning Zone as opposed to WIP......I hope thats right! And thank you very much.....

Re: Summer Roses.

a lot of softness in the colors and in the painting action...delicate as ancient rose can be!

Re: Summer Roses.

I especially like the crisper shadows in the lower part of the large rose on the left -- they truly capture the light effect.

Thank you Uschi,I hope you like it....

Hi Clem,I love old roses so thank you very much for noticing thats what they were!

Thank you Tina,I get so focussed on the heart of the rose I always have to tear myself away to paint the foliage!

Beanpainter,I adore your tulips so I'm thrilled you like my roses, thank you. ...

Hi Sandy,I hope you enjoy it.....I had fun typing it altho I was a wee bit nervous half way thru sharing it for some reason!

Jaytee, you give such wonderful encouragement that its impossible not to want to share around you.You are indeed a perfect guide and thank you so much for the star rating.

I'm over the moon you liked it.Thank you so much.

Hi Nick.I think sweet is a great word to sum them up!Thank you for replying.

Hi Reyma.I'd like to think I can close my eyes and imagine their heavenly scent but as its winter here my imagination is all I have to do so!Thank you for being so kind..

Thank you all very much for replying...and I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.

Jean.

Re: Summer Roses.

*****BIG SIGH***** Beautiful!!! I'm going to go swing my arms about now as instructed and visualise roses! Not painting yet - have too much going on right now - so will do it over Christmas I think!
Thanks you for the WIP/demo.

Ady

Re: Summer Roses.

Thank you so much Tunek,I'm delighted you like it.

Oh Ady I wish you could hear me laughing here.Unless anyone's actually read the step by step demonstration on how to paint roses loosely the swinging arms comment sounds so funny!

I'm imagining you walking around loosening up those shoulders and circling your arms widely now! I'm really looking forward to seeing your roses as I'm sure you are going to have them completely visualised in your mind soon and raring to jump onto paper. No matter what the result you get a star prize for following the preparation so thoroughly!

Have fun and happy painting........and thank you for replying!
