Question What is the best way to store paintings in acrylic on canvas?

Hi,
In your opinion:
What is the best way to store paintings in acrylic on canvas?

I am assuming that having them stand up at a slight angle would be fine or having them lay horizontal on a flat surface (canvas side up of course) is fine too.

Of course, hanging them on walls is excellent.

How do you feel about this?

Thank you.

I have been told that acrylic takes all sorts of temperatures and humidity. I hope that is true.

I am also wrapping them in glassine as they have a tendency (for me) to stick to each other on occasion.

But what about whether to store them upright or in a horizontal position?

Does anyone know?

If not, I will do some research to answer my own question.

I don't think it much matters if they are vertical or horizontal, Nina. Just don't stack them face to face, or they will stick to eachother.

I'm painting on unstretched canvas now, and I'm just piling them together and rolling them up.

Hi Nina, laying them flat is fine (ignoring the dust problem) and resting on their edges is okay for the short term but I wouldn't leave them that way for extended periods as frames can distort slightly under their own weight.

Helen

I wouldn't feel comfortable about having them rolled up for extended periods of time, somehow.

Have you researched this?

An excellent article Nina.
I hang almost everything I have now ( having had to restretch a couple pieces over the years that were accidently damaged/warped )

Great article! I copied it (yes, I put the "credit" of where the article is from ) for my future customers, but the site still doesn't really answer how to store them other than hanging....

I'm framing mine and then using the pipe insullation "noodles" to protect the frames...and then leaning them up against each other. The rest are hung until a garage sale makes me lucky in frames.
