Re: Shrimp boats are a comin....

I can see how the sky and the water was accomplished and the blending is really nice. Did you draw and paint the boats from stratch? If yes, the detail and lines of the mast and rigging had to be very time consuming.
Are you using a pad to draw on? I've got to get me one of those.
What program did you use.
This looks like it was painted in oil on canvas.
Really nice. I hope to be able to do something like that someday.
Carl

Re: Shrimp boats are a comin....

Jean, Bev, Carl thanks!

Bev, I used the tool for straight lines in painter. I don't even know what it's called. The straight line maker ha ha.... Without that tool I cannot make a straight line for anything. Even with a ruler.

Carl, I didn't even bother to sketch the boats I just began painting them with the oil brush. The rigging was done very quickly with the above mentioned tool but I just wanted to give the impression of it. Here is the reference I used and as you can see, the rigging in my painting is really nothing like the real thing. As you can see, there really isn't any detail to the boats either. I am trying to learn to paint...just enough....and let the viewer fill in the details. This was painted in Corel Painter 1X.

What beautiful reflections in the water! You've really managed to give relatively dull colors a pop.

I love the color and the mood of the painting. It is way better than the reference photo. Greet job, Sherry. Wow! I would love to see this printed in a huge size!

Re: Shrimp boats are a comin....

There's Dancing tonight...........whooooo this is awesome and I LOVE SHRIMP BOATS. I love to go down to the coast and see the shrimpers sitting in the docks and I love seeing them working out in the water...There is just something so romantic and calming about them.. YOu have done an excellent job. Makes me want to try. I have taken pictures of them to paint, but never gave it a go.......You have outdone yourself on this one....

Re: Shrimp boats are a comin....

Thanks so much for all your comments everyone.

TX, give it a go it really isn't that hard. Just paint an impression of the boats and rigging instead of trying to paint each and every detail right. If you paint a good impression, our minds will fill in the details.
