faux copper doors
This is an experiment, I make no claims as to whether it will last. I had painted gold and copper metallic paint on some interior wrought iron stair railings, and it was so pretty. The homeowners wanted the same look on the front double doors. This was done with brushes and sponges, using craft acrylic metallic paints in antique copper, copper, medium gold, bright gold and a very light gold. I put two coats of Polycrylic on as a sealer.

Re: faux copper doors
Interesting how blue the glass looks next to your finish.
Makes for a nice contrast. The new hardware goes nicely.
It's a door with a lot of character to begin with, but your finish makes it something extraordinary. Be a good poster child for "what a touch of paint can do"...

Ruth:
I was spending some time looking through old postings and saw this one. I have very similar wrought iron on my front landing and steps. How has this finish weathered on the exterior doors?
The work you did turned out just beautiful!! The color of my iron is exactly that same drab brown. The colors used brightened it up and really emphasizes the beautiful curves of the iron. Another project added to my list!!!

Re: faux copper doors
Well, here it is almost 6 months later, and it still looks good. There were a couple of small spots where the paint was scraped off somehow. I touched up those last week. These doors are under a roof and not directly exposed to the weather. I don't know how it would hold up if it were completely exposed.
Thanks for looking and commenting!
