kitty, a nest and a boat - dip pen and micron 02

All,
Here are three 5x8" ink drawings.

- A kitty (before I read the fur tutorial in this forum tss!tss! )
So it is a promise, you will get soon another animal

- A nest inspired from one of the last WDE forum reference pics. I put some more shadows.

These two were done with dip pen and standard black ink.

And the third one is a small boat using Micron 02 archival ink pencil.

Enjoy the show! and if you have time, feel free to let a word or two (c and C appreciated )

Nice work Yabby! Don't be afraid to go darker with the stipple in places. A lot of middle values tends to flatten the piece somewhat (Check & use the value scale posted in the stickies).

I like the wood in the middle piece

Dan brought up the point of values. That is really important to give your work a finished look that is full bodied. On the cat I would add some more darks and darken up the background more to make the cat pop on the page. I like the woodwork in the second piece and the boat in the third piece, but once again you need a wider range of values. Don't be afraid to work with dark values. Do copy the value scale at the top of the page. I have been inking for nearly 40 years and still use the value scale in my own work.

Hi Yabby These are very nice! I especially like the boat! I agree with Dan and Sassy about the values. Thanks for posting these!

You got some excellent advice yabby so I'll just say I love the way you've drawn the kitty ... such a cheeky pose Yeeeeeh ... lets see some more furry creatures.

Really like the wood in the second image .... and the boat is good too.

Nice drawings.
