Re: Obidos suburb
I am honored! Your are all among my favorite painters on WC and you took time to answer to my work. Thank you very much. Your feedback is so appreciated.
Glenn and Wayne, thank you for your nice comments.
Daniel, I discovered the knife last summer and I loved it right away. I didn't touch a brush since then. I realize that it could limit myself (I only have 1 knife BTW but I am also using old credit card that I cut as I need to). Maybe I should give a second chance to my brushes and see what comes out.
About the composition, I will go to the composition forum to see how I can improve. My skills are really basics at this time. I just try to put some diagonals, avoid the dead center subject and vary forms and size and height. That's about all for now. And, even with those limited simple rules, I don't always succeed ...
When I look back at this particular painting, maybe there is a problem with the lack of real focal point. What do I want the viewer to see first? Maybe I should have planned this a little bit better. Other thing I can see is maybe that the foreground wall is blocking the viewer for accessing the house. All the doors are closed ...
Graham, where do I want to go? That is a good question and I don't have a clear answer. I think, for now, I just want to get a "professional look", get out of the "amateur look". Big expectation, hein?
Actually, I am still painting "with my head" and I am not painting with my soul. I am still painting "objects" or "people" (which are awful BTW); I am not painting verbs or emotions. I am still learning the basics (perspective, values, design, colors, light & shadows) and I want to develop my style (I think that that begins to take form now). And, I guess that, for achieving those objectives, only one receipe: paint, paint, paint.
Thank you again for your feedback ...
