Re: Apples

Kathleen, you are guilty of too much fooling around.
It appears to me that you are caught between spaces .. not real enough; not painterly enough. White values need middle and dark darks, apples are floating, window does not project window, and every item is telling it's own story. With a few of your big bold movements you can turn this into a lovely painting but as is, it is not to your level of accomplishment. Sorry, not trying to be nasty; just hoping this helps.

Re: Apples

Hi Kathleen. Just call it a WIP and it's all good.
What's the light source? (Window? the window and another source?) (btw the window is cool ...unusual but cool...it looks like a painting on the wall with drapery) If the source is the window then the shading becomes an issue. Yep apples need values and some shading on the cloth beneath them as anchor. Bowl/spoon seem really white.
The set up of your forms is good.

Re: Apples

Good call Wayne - all true... I did this as part of a weekly challenge and my week was up - but the painting needs work...it was more 'real' looking but I thought it looked too much like an illustration... so I worked it some. Its neither here not there.
Glenn - the window was a light source.... but I'm not sure the window should stay??
Hate the spoon.

Re: Apples

If this was in a museum I would probably spend some extra time with it. It's seeming more and more that the virus that "Sugar Tree" has, is catching. I would expect to see this in public somewhere... which is good I s'pose. Best. -Harry
