I think this is quite lovely! I wouldn't change a thing. You make me sick. You are SO good with light and shadow. looks really natural, not labored. I think you've definately captured feeling here. cool breeze, slightly warm. like an indian summer day. I really like this one!

I like this one too. I like the feel of the trees and how it feels like the sky is holding them up. I like the relationship with the sky/horizon and window. If you don't feel that the water is dark enough, I like what you did in the FG water, with hints of green in it to hamonize all the greens elsewhere. But i enjoy the hills and the water as is. A nice resting place within the painting from all the movement of the grass and the tension of the trees.

I'll hand the question you gave to Kath back to you. You have all that brush movement in the sky, leaves, and foilage. What would happen if you put it in the hills, water and cabin?
Also, & this is me, I would like you the artist to take me to the cabin as now the tree trunks take me to the sky and I circle around the lake but bypass the cabin.

For me its great of course, but maybe needs another interest..like some oars leaning against the cabin or trees..upside down boat...something a buyer would relate to and take it home....surfboard? kidding .......TerryC

How about if the buyer had stayed at the cabin?
I was actually talking to my mentor last Friday about "that sort of object" in a painting which adds interest (oars, birds, couple walking hand in hand, chair...whatever). She's an old school polish painter and finds objects like that "tacky and unnecessay" and says "if you have to paint that in there then something is wrong with your painting."
whatever the answer, you've both offered great food for thought

Tacky? Depends on the painter....is a mailbox tacky ?........I find your points of interest extremely interesting..........TC

Re: Sea Shanty, Thetis Island BC
are the colors coming out properly, or is there more of an obvious variation in the indian red oxides of the cabin and the trees. I can tell that there is a bit of variation with the closest tree........it's most likely the pic eh?

Re: Sea Shanty, Thetis Island BC
it's the pic val.
terry: i agree, items like that add interest. i like them but i can see her point. probably depends how you put them in and why and if they're necessary. i have a sneaking suspicion that I had put in one or two unnecessary "items of interest" in a particular painting....and got an earfull from her.

I hope there is a front porch to soak in the view.
