Re: Seascape Tutorials & Books
Hi All,
I'll second what Dayannight just said...I wasn't sure who E. John Robinson was so thanks to this thread I went and checked him out. I also checked out the info by John Hagen.
I think this is an excellent idea posting various links to tutorials and websites teaching wave/sea painting techniques. That's why a lot of us came here in the first place...to learn to paint these things by seeing other artists work and be able to read threads containing good info on doing marine art.

Re: Seascape Tutorials & Books
Dear Members,
I'm not trying to advertise anything but...I recently got a pc game called "Magic Mirrors" . It's recommended for younger folk but I got to playing this game with my grandchildren and found it to be an excellent tool in sharpening the eye to locate details. If you are interested you can download a trial version here:
http://www.reflexive.net/index.php?P...detail&AID=462
I really think any aspiring artist would be amazed at how just the slighest variation of color, porportion, composition, light and shadows, and many other of the smallest details can completely alter the overall appearance of images or paintings. If you have ever just stared and stared at a piece of artwork and could "feel" something was off but you just couldn't put a finger on it....this is a great tool to train the eye to pinpoint the problem.
Just wanted to share that with all the members here. IMO..After looking at my own work and some of the works here, I can find exactly what I would change or alter if I were to paint the same thing much faster after using this program. Even if you get nothing from it, there are many beautiful images to use for referance right?

I refer to this book frequently. A must for the Marine Watercolorist.
You can still find it. Try a google search

Re: Seascape Tutorials & Books
Yes, thanks to all of you for taking the trouble. There are probably quite a few of us out here who appreciate it. Although I concentrate more on boats and ships (as a beginner just feeling my way about) - what would they be without a wave here and there!

Re: Seascape Tutorials & Books
Hi
I have recently obtained a video by E John Robinson, which I find incredible. He has devoted his (art) life to the study and painting of seascapes. He is obviously one of the foremost in this subject, and being a teacher for a large proportion of his life has the ability to teach well. I am making my first attempt at a seascape (following) his video, and even though it is the 1st, and I am only half way finished there is no doubt as to what it is (very strange for me !!!) E John (as he calls himself) sells video and dvd courses complete with an accomponying book, or you can by the dvd, video or book separately form his web site (I will come back with the link if you cant find it). I am so enthusiatic about this guy I sound like a salesman (or is it "person")

Re: Seascape Tutorials & Books
You might want to make mention of the fact that there are images of naked women on that page, some of which link to porn sites!!![/b] It certainly was NOT something I was expecting to see when my CHILDREN wanted to see tutorials on drawing/painting waves!
