Question rolled up painting??

Hi everyone

I purchased a lovely watercolour painting and it has been sent to me rolled up. How do I deal with this - to make it flat again?? Look forward to hearing from you.

Re: rolled up painting??

Hi Amanda

That's how I send my paintings, rolled up, wrapped in cellophane and taped inside a tube. I recommend gently unrolling it and allowing it to relax for a little while before spraying the back with a fine mist of water (don't drench it, it only needs to be damp, and avoid getting any water on the paint itself). Lay the painting face down on clean towel, on top of a board. Lay another clean towel on top, then weigh the whole thing down with something heavy (I usually use home shopping catalogues - the new Argos one is nice an heavy! lol) Leave it for at least 6 hours and it should be absolutely flat.

If you can't wait ... another method is the same as Ruth explained, only you can iron it flat on the back of course with a lukewarm iron

Re: rolled up painting??

Good advice from ^^^. When we were doing the Round Robin paintings here, they were full size sheets of watercolor paper, rolled up and put in a tube numerous times as they journeyed around the world and it didn't hurt them at all.
