Holiday pics - Bosnia-Herzegovina

From Split we travelled along the coast and then inland to a little village named Medugorje, where there is a very well-known Marian shrine, much like the ones at Lourdes and Fatima.

The Adriatic coastline - soooooooo beautiful.

And now moving inland - sorry about the reflections, taken from a bus.
This was a mighty scary sheer drop - a lot of people moved to the other side of the bus! the pic does not really give you a clear idea of how steep it is. John thought it might be about 2000 ft down - is he exagerating Ale??

We climbed Apparition Hill. Here is the statue erected in the place where the local children reportedly first saw the Virgin Mary.
The view is looking back towards the village.

this will give you some idea of the rocky terrain.
There were crowds going up here, at all times of the day and night.
All different nationalities, all praying aloud in their own language.

Praying at the Blue Cross

Climbing to the Hill of the Cross - an even harder climb, in the heat of the day

At the top!

And at the end of the day - guess who surprised me with a visit??? Ale and his friend Boris!!!
Was the highlight of our whole trip!

Re: Holiday pics - Bosnia-Herzegovina

Are you sure this was not taken from an Awacs heheheeh What a drop my God. I know where it is but I usually drive and look ahead: so I'm not aware of this fantastic view

It must have been fun when the ladies crossed to the other side of the bus as if that would have saved them

Great photos, Lulu! But that drop is quite scary enough, thank you! Any more depth in the photo, and I'd have been outta here!

Re: Holiday pics - Bosnia-Herzegovina

So glad you look straight ahead when you are driving Ale hehe

Darla, yes there is a guard rail, but the bus was so close to it that I couldn't see it when I looked down in this particular spot!

Thanks for looking everyone

Geesh, Lulu...I didn't know you would be going to Medjugoria! Beautiful pictures. Some friends of mine have visited. What a Holy place which has seen such violence all around the town...

Re: Holiday pics - Bosnia-Herzegovina

It's such a place of very deep peace Kevin. I certainly want to go back, so does John. 3 days was not nearly long enough.
One of my many enduring memories of the place is when walking the Mountain of The Cross, all the trunks of little trees that people use to support themselves, were smooth. The thought that millions of pilgrim hands had smoothed them was very moving.
