gold and copper faux finish

Dining room of very fancy house. The wall was painted a dark rust color, then I sponged over it with burnt umber and metallic acrylic paint in several shades of gold and copper.

Re: gold and copper faux finish

so elegant. I've wanted to do something similar in my daughter's room using deep magenta and purple as the base, kind of a Bohemian look, but she's not into that. maybe when she moves out.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH, pretty...

I want to do that in my house, but my house isn't fancy enough for it! I'm making a foray into faux soon, have a consult ( someone I did a mural for already) Fri, she wants autumn colors so I may suggest some metallics. Just beautifully done, Ruth, as always!

Ruth,
I just love using metallics too. Your walls look great. It is hard for me to take a picture of my faux walls. They never come out as good as the real thing. But yours captured the essence of your work.
Have you ever done that treatment on ceilings.?I did a similar one ( using copper and gold metallics )on a dining room tray ceiling over tissue paper. The glow of the chandelier onto the ceiling made it look fabulous.

Very nice! I'm assuming the arched opening has bullnose corners-- I've often wondered how to apply a faux finish to just one room when there's no defined corner edge to stop/start the finish. Did you mask off just shy of the bullnose?

Re: gold and copper faux finish

Thank you all for your comments!

Mdart, you're right. The wall was already painted by the house painters, all I had to do was follow the edge of the white paint with masking tape.

Re: gold and copper faux finish

After looking at the arched opening again, I had a thought about adding architectural interest to bullnose corners-- Just reverse the masking after the wall finish is completed and the paint cured and shade the white paint along its edge (keeping the direction of natural light coming into the room in mind) to give it the dimensional depth of half-round molding.
