Post Stiff Back

I posted this in the critiques forum a few weeks ago. It's a 9x14 Alfacolor pastel on constuction paper (started 20 yrs. ago, couldn't afford Canson at the time) finished last month. It will be a gift to my brother. Wanted to try foreshortening...which I'm surprised it turned out fairly well. Any flaws you see? I had mixed comments in the critiques.

Oh I forgot to tell you...I scanned the piece on the scanner that is why part of his fingers are cut off. Didn't want to wait for the photo to come back. Also his pants are like hip huggers...so his thighs really aren't short...like they said they were commented in the critiques forum.

So many colors, so great. Such raw emotion. I love the greenish reflection on his boots. Hey who cares you used construction paper? It came out great! By the way, I could tell his pants are hiphuggers...mmmm

hubda-hubda! This is a great piece....sometimes others try to 'correct' the subject's flaws like 'her arms are too long'....well, not everybody is well-proportioned right? If you painted your subject as he is, then that's wonderful....why try to correct his flaws? Perfection is for the gods...

You did a great job. Love this piece :-)

I think it's fine too. When I first saw it I thought it was Michael Flatley -- then I saw he was wearing platform shoes and not Irish box shoes :P

So . . . who is it?

Thanks everyone for your comments. It's David Lee Roth of VanHalen, lead singer..on the first album. I used to do bunches of celebs in my beginner years...only time I do them now is for gifts. I had this stuck in my portfolio and decided to finish it..and get it out of the way before I threw it out. Didn't want to do that, 'cause the outline was already there.

Ohju,

Nice piece. The only major problem I see may be hard to judge, not having seen the original picture. You have lots of great texture/structure in the fabric and figure, however, for the chest to stomach area, there would be more muscle tension for the back bend he is doing.

Good value changes and color work.

Diane
