Re: MY first portrait
This is a great start. One of the things I would recommend doing since this is one of your first portraits I would enlarge your reference photo and change it to a grayscale image so that you can easier see the tones. This appears to me to a bit flat right now and the tones are not quite right you will need to push some of the midtones a bit darker. From what I can tell you have a prety good likeness just need to strengthen the overall tones.

I agree with Sam on that this is a nice job and his ideas on the reference photos. I also agree that your tonal values need some work. But overall, I'm very impressed with your FIRST attempt!

A very nice piece, and very thoughtful.
I'm sure your mother will be proud of you, but don't forget to be proud of yourself.

Thank you Penny. My remarks came to mind easily. Two years ago my Uncle died from cancer. This year a good friend of mine is dying from cancer.
I can relate...unfortunately.

Re: MY first portrait
Good job! I echo Sam L's advice. Scan the pic, convert to grayscale, adjust the brightness/contrast so it looks like a nice B&W photo instead of a color one with the color removed. Print at 8 x 10 size and you'll have a much easier time recognizing the value changes.
KaBoom!, you're not becoming a Satanist, are you? Or one of them dang pagan types?

Re: MY first portrait
Basically. heheheeeheh
Hey, if we can't observe the spirit of the law we at least can observe the letter of it. I've avoided this topic for a long time lately. But it is difficult at times. It comes and goes. One benefit... arguing against those who believe differently than I do at least keeps me from selling my crack, cocaine and meth on the streets. (j/k, I still sell them. JUST JOKING!!!!!!!!!!)
Welp, let us now refrain from tainting an otherwise religion and politics-free thread. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEheheheheh
There's always the debate forum.

I like reading stories.
Usually while having a peanut butter and blackberry jelly sandwich on Oatmeal hazelnut bread...
I can't let it go...so tempting...somebody "save" me...but not...well you know....

Okay, you two. It's three weeks of therapy for you both. Don't post again until you've aquired a better attitude!
I'll email you the therapy outlines and I expect you to follow them to the letter! No short cuts this time. hehehehehhehe
