Eliean Donan castle - with WIP

Hi Folks,
This is my first post in the landscape forum, I generally post in the CP forum. Completed this pic of the Eliean Donan castle in Scotland recently. Though I love doing landscapes in oils, this is my first landscape in colored pencils.

I have used watercolor pencils on grey color watercolor paper. The clouds dont seem very white yet and do need some work. The bottom half is however complete.

My reference image from the RIL, thanks to JKM

After a lot of corrections, especially in the shape of the roof etc...

That's nice Nithya! It's indeed a great reference picture. I see you changed the shape of the picture, looks like an idea that works well.
Thought that perhaps the reflection of the castle and the land in the water needs some darkening with perhaps some more contrast in the stones on the shore below the castle. But that's perhaps included in the upper half which isn't finished yet.

Nice work, Nithya! That's a lovely scene and you were brave to tackle it in CP! I especially like how you handled the ground down there under the bridge. I'd like to see a bit darker shadows on the buildings, to go along with the deep shadows under the bridge, but that's just me, and it's beautiful as it is!

It's a nice attempt however I suggest that you pay more attention to matching the values and color composition of the shadows. In the end, we attempt to make the painting more "intriging" than the photo. I wonder if you can say that when you put the photo and the painting side-by-side.

Hi I think it is great too, and would love to learn cp as well as that. I agree with Helen, a little more darkness in the shadows. Apart from that I love it.

Yeah, I would make the shadows a bit more darker. The top half of the painting needs quite some work I think.

I am not sure I get what you are saying. Are you saying that I haven't got all the colors in the shadow? I will work on that.
