Smile Afghan woman

This woman was on the cover of the December 3 issue of Time. I was looking for something to draw and there she was on the coffee table. I haven't been drawing much lately, but it felt good to get back into it again. Comments and suggestions are welcome...

Free from the Burqa! Hooray!

Ahem, sorry.

Wonderful picture, it looks like it is being lighted by one single candle, I love that effect! Glad you're getting back into the drawing thing again!

Colleen!!
Where have you been?

Well, you've totally destroyed that old adage, 'Use it or lose it!' Nice job. She's a little vague aournd the mouth, but it looks like that's just from compression. Great eyes -- you can tell that those eyes haven't seen the sun for awhile.

Really nice!
Her eyes look fantastic, but I think if you had added even a small light highlight it would have put just a little more spark.
Good piece to get back into the swing of things.

Have a great day!

Thanks!

Thanks everyone!! Much of the detail was lost in the scan, especially in the mouth area. Also, I did include highlights (albeit small ones) in the eyes, but these also got lost in the scan/resize. But, whattya gonna do?

I'm thinking of framing this one. If I do, it'll be a first for me, I've never hung any of my drawings. So, if you see any changes to be made, speak up!

Thanks again!

FRAME IT! Looks good to me, I like it very much, and do realize the inconsistencies of the scanners. I'll bet it looks way better in the real world though! Even without the eye hilight that we can't see, I can tell that she has that glassy eye look, I mean, it has real depth. Groovy!

My favorite part is the top of the shawl, really good job!

I like the details in the blanket and the way she fades out. Is her head naturaly flat like that or is it just me? It just seems that her head flattensout a bit on top... could be cause of the blanket though...
