My first still life WIP

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: My first still life WIP
Year Created: 2005
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Wood
Dimension: 24x24
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
Can I post a WIP in here? :)

This is my first still life, in progress. I'm hesitant to post the photo I took of my subject because it shows how "off" some things are :D I'm a complete newbie to still life.

A tilted book is about as difficult as it gets for me as far as perspective.

Comments on anything are welcome and appreciated.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
I'd like perspective and composition feedback at this point. Any and all thoughts are welcome.

Re: My first still life WIP

Ahh thanks. I'm sure to get feedback here.

....anybody?

I was really hoping to get some feedback before I get so far into it that I don't want to change anything. ...tap tap tap.... Is this thing on?

Not a fan of these hidden sticky forums.

Re: My first still life WIP

it's a great start, i'm working on one myself right now. your perspective looks good and color looks right, the lamp needs some glazing though in a darker color, not so purpler, add some untramarine and black. the drapery above the book also has some orange light reflecting off the scarf... hope this helps

Re: My first still life WIP

Thanks Kara! You're right about the orange reflection. I did some work on the drapery last night but didn't *see* the orange. It'll look better with it.

As for the lamp, it's a really bright purple lamp, but the color didn't come across in the photo. Do you think it's too bright for the composition or just for how it looks in the photo?

Your feedback def helps and is most appreciated. Thanks again

i think the bright purple wouldn't work for the lamp, i'd make it have a black overlay

Siraven,
I wasn't sure I agreed with you at first about the darker lamp, but I went darker with it and am loving it much more. Thanks!

I'll post some updates later tonight.
