Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
The menu pull-downs work for those using Panther and modern browsers.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
Diana, I have a Mac, too (iMac ). I've had trouble over the years (with other Macs I've had) with either Explorer or Navigator (I can't remember which one) when trying to interact on a website (posting, chatting, etc).
On our current computer, we have Explorer 5.2 or (Mac's) Safari. I was using Explorer 5.2, but over the past few months I started using Safari, since it blocks pop-ups (POOP-UP's!! LOL). But lately I've run into some problems with Safari, so now I try to use only Explorer 5.2.
What do you use? Any advice for me?

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
http://www.mozilla.org/
but Safari actually works the best in here.
I use every browser known to man that will work for Mac and I recommend Safari and FireFox 0.91 and even Firebird 0.7
I don't recommend IE at all for Mac anymore.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
Hi Silvia
I wholeheartedly recommend a feather lite browser called iCab
Select the proper version, & language, it's only a 2.5MB .sit file
iCab downloads
If you feel that it needs a facelift go to: Alternative iCons
Read the FAQs
iCab is TOTALLY Non-Invasive, it will work from anywhere
without adding messy bits all over your system, and if for
any reason you don't like it, simply drag it to the trash.
Personally:
I've been using it for years from OS 7.5 until now in "X".
I use TWO Browsers exclusively, Safari in 'X' and iCab in 9+ & 10+
Give it a chance,
I think you'll find it a refreshing alternative to 'the BloatWare'.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
Panther is OS X or OS 10.3.
I am using 10.3.4.
Safari is the Browser installed with Panther or Jaguar .. (OS 10.2) etc., it is an OS X only browser.
For OS 9.2, I found that could use M$IE and iCab as well as all Netscape, various versions up to 7.
I could also use Mozilla 1.2.1. There is a download site for OS 8 and 9 on the Mozilla pages.
Not that I have done much research on using this site from OS 9.
ask away Sylvia.
It seems that a lot of artists use Mac's.
I must sit down on my old Mac and try surfing the site in OS 9.2.2
I am sure that as Olando said, you will enjoy using iCab.
However in my tests, it was not a lot better at manipulating this site.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
It seems to be a problem of internet standards.. They are not anywhere near standard unless you buy a new computer each week.
For those of us whom don't possess the latest whizbangadgetry, well we must learn to do without or create workarounds.
It has been suggested to me that we use different forum software that may work for Mac users. I will attempt to do tests of whether that forum software will also work on older Macintosh computers, which means I have to hook up an old computer to the internet and drop into such sites.
Here is an example of quick links type poop-up/down/whatever the term is.., from that other software, visible to users running Jaguar or Panther.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
A chance discovery.
The main index page does work the pull-down menus in Internet Explorer 517 for Mac and OS 9.2.2
However it does not work with any of the subsequent pages. So for Mac users who do want to browse the site via these menus, it can be done from the front page.
All you need to do to get to this page is click on the wetcanvas logo or indeed bookmark this as your entry page.
an example from Mac OS 9.2.2 and internet explorer
Notably: This does not work in iCab. on Mac OS 9.2.2 but may well work in Mozilla I just haven't tried re-installing Mozilla yet. iCab users will still have to ues RoseQeen's links so kindly provided above.
I have one suggestion for management: there should be a clearly defined link to the forums, rather than just the channels on the main page. For those disabled viewers using old Mac's and maybe even old Windows machines.
Yea sure my Mac looks like no other but well I did say I was a J.O.A.T.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
I run 10.3.2 and the only way to get smArt View at art-agent.com to work correctly is with Safari. IE won't work consistently.
The drop down thing not working is a pain... and it makes no sense! The problem is that there have to be so many work arounds for PCs that the simplification of Mac code no longer works... take it from a programmer for both platforms.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
I like iCab's lightweight philosophy (and power options like being able to set the user-agent) but can't recommend it for day in, day out heavy browsing from a newer Mac. I have proven that it breaks on a significant number of sites which work fine in every other mainstream browser. I hope eventually it will be fixed and work robustly.
I think under OS 9, the best bet is Mozilla v1.2 (was that the last that was supported under 9?), or Explorer.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
Yes you may as well say iCab is losing the batle unless the new updates are going to be better.
It has all been said above about OS8/OS 9 and Mozilla 1.2.1

Paloma, your avatar can be the right dimensions and still use up too much memory -- be sure you saved it at no more than 72 dpi to keep the size down.
To get to the image uploader, click this link and it will take you directly there: http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/Uploader/popup.php? When you add images to your signature, make sure they're roughly the same size so that it looks nice when you finish.
If you lose this link, it's posted earlier in this thread, along with links to most of the other things Mac users have trouble with at WetCanvas.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
Thank you Rose Queen for your swift response. I really think my problems in getting my Avatar accepted go a bit deeper than keeping to 72 dpi resolution which I always do! When I resample or resize an image keeping to 72 dpi I notice that on the grey box the file size remains at 28.8kbps which is far too large - 100 k being max. I have printed off the tutorial -' optimizing images for web & web resolution' to play around with my images so I can try again.
I am relatively new to computing & have had my computer guru look at this problem but he says it is something to do with my imacs configuration !!!
Not sure if I can accept his word ; so if there is anyone out there with a knowledge of OS 9 imacs would love to hear; as I would so like to get this sorted. Many thanks.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
What are you using to resize the image? If it is Photoshop then you may reduce the actual kb of the image by lessening the quality of the image from high to medium say. The dialog for this comes up when you are saving as jpg. My personal choice is Fireworks for exporting web ready images. Graphic Converter also has choices in saving to remove unwanted resources from the image so as to make it web ready.
In OS 9 and with PhotoShop 5.5, I used Image Vice(BoxTop software) to get the files even smaller than Fireworks could do them.

Re: Macintosh Users -- Look Here!
Hi,
I haven't been reading this thread, but as a long time MAC user, I find that when doing on line music, videos, etc., it sometimes works to sign on on Internet Explorer and go to WC through that. That seems to overcome some of the windows problems. I listen to baseball and have to go through Internet Explorer. Good luck.
