pauline's pen and ink reminds me of...
Pauline's lovely pen and ink drawings reminds me of this drawing ( many years old) in pen and watercolour - a technique I just cannot get back into no matter how I try ,
but a customer in a gallery saw it and complained asking why the b****y artist could not fill in between the lines properly !! Derek

Oh Derek.... if only mine could turn out like this.... this is absolutely beautiful.
To me this is a classic that will withstand the test of time......make sure it is well protected with archival quality matting and leave it in your will to someone special..... !

It's like when I owned a photography studio... 90% of the people wanted their kid looking straight at the camera smiling from ear to ear...
This is superb Derek... I like the motion exhibited in the arm.
Why don't you do these anymore?

Re: pauline's pen and ink reminds me of...
ta for comments - Pauline if I knew where it was (is it sold, lost or burned - the latter happens a lot when I am cheesed off with myself ) I would care for it as it is one of my favourite bits ,
Bernie - I do try and just screw up - they end up looking weak or just poor - I got this one and a drawing of a local harbour that worked - I do try once or twice a year but end up tearing them up , will have another go ....

Derek... please don't take this wrong... but I find it encouraging when an accomplished artist like yourself struggles at times... gives me hope and I can say to myself... "even the best of them struggle maybe there's hope for me".
AND... you are one of my favorite artists!
Bernie

Very nice Derek, it has that fresh and spontaneous appeal, that you will have to keep trying to recapture every now and then.
Lost, burned... or perhaps stolen!

Derek...This is...was...?...wonderful. As for the "public"..I was just at the Toulouse Lautrec Montmarte show in Chicago and some man said (outloud) "Thats a terrible horse!"...I just say..."okay wiseguy...lets see you do it!"
You are too hard on yourself...as you probably know when you're not mad at yourself...This piece is so fresh and alive...its in you somewhere even if you don't work in the same way...medium.
Thanks...

Derek a good artist can repeat their mistakes, just think of it as a mistake.
Tracey maybe the man was refering to the horse and not the drawing, I know some terrible horses

Derek,
This reminds me of my cousin, who was always trying to make "happy mistakes".

Oh, Derek, that piece is wonderful! I'd be in line hoping for a print of that one!
As a bit of encouragement.....please try more often than twice a year to attempt to capture that style of painting again. It's so spontaneous and 'alive' *sigh*

By the way, Derek...... I am so flattered that my meagre scratchings have somehow reminded you of this piece...... maybe some of mine have potential after all . I'll just keep trying then ......and maybe......... one day......

Re: pauline's pen and ink reminds me of...
again thanks for comments and the nuggets of truth and sense therein ....
I think pen and wash etc needs a special sort of mental state for them to work - watchfull, casual ,playfull and even careless - but with an edge of discipline - and thats what I was reminded of when I saw those posted by Pauline -
perhaps I have lost that state of mind now !! as well as an ability to use punctuation properly !! keep on truckin' - Derek
