Re: WIA Monday, June 6, 2005

Hey everyone! Happy Summer!

I just posted some photos from my garden on my site if you want some North FL Summer Inspiration: http://penguintrax.com/gallery/view_...umName=album05

On the beading front, I finally finished the second section of byzantine chain that I've been working on for what seems forever. I also made (by hand, ouch) two 16 ga jump rings to attach the clasp. It's going into the tumbler this afternoon and I hope to have the pendant/centerpiece attached tomorrow and show it off!

My toe is healing pretty well from the surgery. Still have the stitches and it's wrapped up and I'm hobbling about, and the stitched don't come out until after we get back from B&B.

I'm jealous of all of you that got to sleep in this morning. DS had me awake at 6 AM by placing his toy drum practially on top of my head. For some reason he thought I needed to sleep with the durned thing!!

Have a productive day, everyone!

Pam T., You go up to to 'Content Areas' in the blue bar nearest the top of the page. Click on it and you will see a drop down list. At the bottom of the list choose "Reference Library Images". This will take you to the Reference Library. At the left near the top of the page is some text that says "My Photos". Click on that and you will be taken to your gallery. You can upload pictures there. Whatever title you give them will be the keywords that are used in a search. So if you post something called Rain on a Marguerite Daisy" and then choose Flowers as the catagory then your picture can be found with a search of the Reference Library on the words rain, marguerite, or daisy and it will be listed in the sub catagory of flowers.

Pam, that sounds like a horrible early morning. I had a kitten launch itself off my face at a dot on the wall above my bed. I was asleep at the time so I know what that rude awakening is like. Tiger will grow up and stop doing that kind of thing.

Charissa, hope the rain holds off.

Welcome back Nancy and Shirley. The cabin always sounds absolutly fantastic. Maybe someday I can go, I'd love to spend a fun weekend with my bugs.

Kathy S.,I hope you find the a photo of the manniquin. I'm intrigued.

Back to work for me,

Re: WIA Monday, June 6, 2005

ohmygoodness the day is not improving. took the girls to the dog park and it started to pour the minute I drove in... Then Zoe would not come out of the water and was in for 45 minutes at least and kept swimming out of view and making me very nervous. Then some nice older woman gave me some dog treats in the hopes to lure her out -didn't work but did attract some very rude dogs who do not know how to take a treat out of your hand gentle like mine do and I got bit. No skin broken at least, but wow that hurt. And then I cracked my head on the door putting Luke into his car seat. Yikes. I think I'm going to go crawl under the covers and try to start over!

Good luck at your appt Charissa - hope the MRI doesn't take long. I hate the sound inside there... last one I was in I wanted to crawl right out.

Barbara, I think Tiger is about teen age right now, hu? he's about 9 months? He does get better and better and I do love him so. Poor thing actually launched himself into the wall last night - off me, over Frank and into the wall - and then spent the rest of the night under the bed. Frank thought I threw him and I wonder if Tiger thinks the same thing - he's very skittish today.

Hey, do you guys think I might have a chance at getting into this show this fall? It's a big big deal - one of the bigger shows in the area. Most of the jewelry is not like mine... I wonder if maybe they look down on beaded jewelry? But perhaps if I present it as handmade lampwork glass jewelry???

Re: WIA Monday, June 6, 2005

Pam,

I checked out the link and here is what I found first thing under jewelry,

Alhadeff, Elaine
Business: M.E. & You Artwear
Street: 4624 Beach Drive SW
City/State/Zip: Seattle, WA 98116
Phone: 206 - 419-5272
Fax: N/A
Email: Send Email
Website: View Website
Medium: Glass,Jewelry

The beads are art glass. So I don't think that would be a problem.

I think you need to enter both your semi-precious and your lampwork pieces to jury. For your lampwork pieces you need to make sure it is clear that the beads are made by you.

It says you must be in control of all production and you are so I don't see that as a problem.

The only problem I see is that you don't have many shows to list. If you don't get in for that reason you can always try again next year after you do more shows.

They said that each new to their show artist would have a mentor to help them and that might be nice. It would really depend on how much of a control person the mentor is. You could learn a lot.

All that said I sure wish I could go to that show. There are some really outstanding pieces shown on their website.

Shot for the stars, you'll either make it or land on the moon and that's not bad either. You know your work is wonderful, original, creative and just plain yummy.

I'm really sorry about the dog bite. I think sometimes a bite like that hurts our feelings more than it hurts. Sounds like you'll have to do some extra cuddling of Tiger so he knows you still love him. I did throw my cat against a wall when he jumped off my face while I was asleep. He wasn't hurt but he was pretty insulted. I didn't mean to throw him but I did it as I was wakeing up. His hind claws cut my face from above my eyebrow to the top of my lip across my eyelid and right under my nose. At least he never jumped off my face again.

Pam...there are actually a couple artisans at the beginning of the jewelry section that look like they do lampwork and gemstone combos...but one only has beads posted on her website (went to check out the jewelry style...darn)....http://www.meandyouartwear.com/Beadgallery.html

and the other doesn't have any website functioning.

From the photos posted on the show page...your style is different but complimentary I think. Go for it...you have a website, you show in a gallery (or more?), so even if you don't make it the first time...your designs have shown up there, you are getting your name out. you will learn how to make a "package" for entry...and you are my hope! lol...but I am not planning on making lampwork...I worry about the fire.

Re: WIA Monday, June 6, 2005

thanks Barbara and Kathy - I can totally see me there... if not this year then next. I have until July to get the app. in... so I'll work on my lampwork a little and see if I can make a few knock out things for slides for the jurry. I guess the only thing I have to loose is a little money in application fees... Yes, shoot for the stars... the stinky cow pies were not it LOL

A day late on my part, but I wanted to catch up with you all and see what I missed while I was playing at the bead retreat.

Nancy, you're a better doll than I'll ever be. I love you endlessly for your generosity and kindness that you extended to me.

Hugs all, and moving on to the current WIA thread!

~D.
