The storm is rolling in…
Thanks, Andrew for reminding us how important it is to emphasize mood. This is my attempt at a dramatic sky and feeling of cold and loneliness. I'm not sure about the cold but the storm is definitely coming!!!!
this is about 15 x 8 on d'arches watercolor paper.
Hopefully, the storm is not rolling in here, as a local plein air painting group is meeting at the Rose Gardens in Portland, and I really want to go!

I get lonliness too. Beautiful color palatte! The touch of purple in the sky echoes the red foliage in the front just beautifully!

Re: The storm is rolling in…
Glad to hear the storms arent' rolling in where you are. We lucked out too, but for how long is anyones guess. My sons soccer game had a change of venue, since the hosting teams fields had gone aquatic.
To the picture. I really like it. I like how you indicated the clouds and emphasized the shadows on the farm building. The compositonal effect, but pushing the focus of the picture so far back towards the horizon really adds to the feeling of isolation.

The first thing that popped into my head when I saw this was sad, then lonely, which explaned the sad. You beautifully achieved a mood with this one, challenge met for sure Elaine!

Very atmospheric - you've really taken that photo and made it interesting (wrong word for what I am thinking, but can't find it) - the composition is better than the photo, the tonal range is better and it is DEFINITELY moody

I feel so sorry for that poor lonely barn sitting there under that brooding sky. Really nice painting,

Re: The storm is rolling in…
The sky ins AMAZING! And loneliness is what I feel looking at it too. And a bit frightened too just wondering how long and how bad that storm will be (and will the roof of this old barn keep the weather out?) I also have to agree that your comp is better than the ref photo. NICE
