Equivalent for Bruynzeel Yellow Ochre

Hi! I made the mistake of getting addicted to Bruynzeel Design Fullcolor pencils, a line that has since been discontinued. I purchased the last 3 yellow ochre # 227 pencils my local art supply shop carried because I fell in love with this color, the texture and it looks like I'm gonna run out in the middle of my current project. Windmill on deserted farm in the prairie.... the subject demands a ton of this beautiful golden shade but I haven't been able to find a substitute. Does anyone hear have any ideas of what else I can use instead?

Thanks a bunch,

Virginia

Re: Equivalent for Bruynzeel Yellow Ochre

Uh, it occurred to me ya' all could help me make a match if I included a sample of the color. My digital camera died so I can't make any new swatches of my favorite earth yellow, but here's an old painting where I first used this. The golden-brown rings around Saturn were done with Bruynzeel yellow ochre # 227.

Thanks again for your suggestions,

Virginia

Re: Equivalent for Bruynzeel Yellow Ochre

Well if the colours are showing up truly on my monitor I'd say it's almost exactly the same as my Faber Castell Polychromos Braunocker, Brown Ochre #9201-182. It looks identical to me going by your picture. If not, there are several ochre's quite close to that, some yellower and some browner so if you have access to a store that sells Poly's, you could check those out. Good luck! I couldn't imagine losing some of my favourite shades! If I could never see Dark Indigo or Dark sepia again, I'd be heartbroken

I'd go with what Wendy said, since she feels the Polychromo color is a good match. If you try Prismacolors, I think it would either be Goldenrod (darker shade) or Yellow Ochre (a lighter shade) or a mix of the two could do it. Pablo's have a Brown Ochre (I think that might be too brown) and a Light Ochre (probably too light) but a mix of the Light Ochre and Hazel might work. Or Pablo's Orchre or Cinnamon looks similar to your color - much like a mixture of Prisma's Yellow Ochre and Goldenrod.

Hope you're able to find a good match

Thanks for your suggestions catchlight and flame lily. I do have a set of polychromos, but none of those shades you mentioned. Fortunately enough I have a couple of good art stores I can stop by on my way home from work... I hope at least the colors will match, since I don't think anything will come close to the slightly grainy texture of Bruynzeel.

Thank you!

Virginia
