Drawing for 'homeless 3'

Here is a preliminary drawing for Homeless 3, the third in a series of paintings depicting the condition/plight of homeless individuals.
I would appreciate any comments or feedback.
Thank you.
Mark.

Re: Drawing for 'homeless 3'

I find the drawing visually interesting, what's with the large hands?

Re: Drawing for 'homeless 3'

The hands are deliberately enlarged, this stems from the work I did in my university days, I personally like the look of large hands, but they also have some symbolic reference.
Hands have been used to symbolize (in different ways and at different times)

Love - Health - Wisdom - Sacrafice - and Humanity.

All attributes which are connected to this subject matter.

Thanks for your comments.
Mark.

Re: Drawing for 'homeless 3'

I find the drawing a very strong editorial comment. In your interpretation I have the sense that I have to deal with the human being that is between me and my comfort zone. The medium and how you have used it shows much deeper emontion and feeling than most drawings I have seen. You have captured the hopelessness, loneliness and frustration found in many a person who I see on the street and in the ally's in most metropolitian cities. The comments about the hands have no meaning to me , because I see the hands , lips and eyes all standing apart telling different stories yet all adding to the whole story of this man's plight. I would have to say , that I think you have created a very important piece of art that speaks volumns about the homeless persons in out society. Good job and hope you continue to raise out conscienceness.

Re: Drawing for 'homeless 3'

good Mark, I like the fact that you are making them different, this one shows great promise too.
My only comment at the moment, and it may not be relevant, is that the view under the archway, to me is more of a distraction, and it doesn't add to the concept. My feeling would be for something darker, perhaps a longer darker tunnel... just a thought

Mac

Re: Drawing for 'homeless 3'

Thanks daro for your reply, I appreciate your time and effort in posting in this thread, I will try and live up to yoor expectations of this piece.

Mac I gave your idea a quick try to see if made any difference to the piece, firstly just knocking back the background and making the figure more prominant, then adding the tunnel effect you mentioned.
Here they are let me know what you think.

Re: Drawing for 'homeless 3'

Mark, to my mind they both do add more to the feeling, not sure which I think suits best though, the light patch on the second still seems a distraction. Maybe someone else will add a thought, but you will do what seems right to you.

Re: Drawing for 'homeless 3'

I think I might go for the background knocked back, although the actual scene might change for the painting. Thanks for the input though mac.
By the way you don't know who posted in my 'Best of Month' thread do you???
Mark.

Mark rumour has it that the moderator in this forum has a 'big stick', I don't think the poster wanted to own up... I couldn't see a signature on the post... it looks like the lone ranger

Mark
Overall I really like the atmosphere you are conjuring here.
I do have a bit of a problem with the hands tho. I think they work, but I also think that they will lessen how well this one sits with the others in the series, because they don't have anything like so obvious a distortion...JUst my opinion and as I say...the hands work well if you take this image in isolation.

I will give that some thought mr s, I will see how it turns out. still at the early stages as yet.
I will keep every one posted berni on the development, might be some time before it gets started as I have a lot on this month as my teacher training course finishes this month and I have several large assignments to hand in .
