"Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....
This is my latest 'work-in-progress', titled "Twilight". This is just getting started about 3 hours in so far. Just started my usual layering process and things are looking really stark at this point, especially the nose which doesn't have much shape at this stage...I was starting on it when I decided to quit for the night...

Hi, Paul, it is good to see you back. I remember your last ones--weren't they of your wife--is this one her also? Lastly, what you have don so far could easily stand strongly on its own.

Re: "Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....
Thanks JayD, it's nice to be back! I've been spending my creative energies on other people's projects for many months and I'm finally getting to do what I love best, doing my own projects! LOL!
This is my future sister-in-law, Angie. I took this and other photos last year for reference but never had the chance to use them. Thanks for the kind words regarding the piece being able to stand on it's own as is... I can't leave a single square millimeter of paper untouched much less that much negative space, remember, it's me you're talking to! LOL! That said, some of my favorite drawings in here are the most simple with just the most important visual elements appearing, so strong and beautiful... I really need to break from my normal mode-of-operation and try something new...Okay, next time!

Hi there Paul, I'm glad to see you back, too!
I remember your beautiful drawings of your wife, as well. This one looks to be coming along just as beautifully. As Judy said, it could stand on it's own, just as it is.
Looking forward to watching this.

I've got to agree with Judy, JayD and Paula. A touch of shadow under the right eye and on the chin, just a hint of shoulder, blend the bridge of the nose toward the left eye and you've got it nailed. She's beautiful .

Re: "Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....
WOW! WOW! and WOW! again so far this is great (as is all your work). I can't wait to see more. How is your blending so smooth. You mentioned in a past post that you use a "homemade" tortillion. How to make them? How do you achieve a smooth blend? How do you.....er, sorry - I'm just in awe.
oh, just one more question, if I may, what type of paper do you use? I've been using bristol but I still cant seem to get a smooth blend like yours and others. I'll glue my eyes to the screen watching this masterpiece unfold.
Thanks,
Ricky

Re: "Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....
Thanks so much Paula, Don and Ricky!!
Don- Thanks for the suggestions, it'll definitely have a lot of shading before it's done.
Ricky- My blending is simply layer upon layer of tiny strokes. The "homemade tortillion" is just a torn piece of scrap paper rolled into a cone shape. I use the tip of the cone gently to blend as needed. After I blend (which isn't much), I still put another layer or two of light pencil where extra texture is needed.
I'm still using Beinfeng 70lb Drawing Paper. Thanks again for the super nice remarks, I hope it can live up to your expectations...
Today's progress: Still in that rough layering stage... another scan tomorrow, hopefully.

Re: "Twilight" Work-In-Progress.....
Oops! Today's scan... My scanner did a better job tonight, I don't know if I greyscaled it or what yesterday but it came out stark white. Who knows.
