2 from Today
both 9x12, oil on board.
Tried to block in with thin transparent darks with no medium. It sure is hard to paint depth in a group of trees.
C&C are welcome thank you.

The first one looks great and I like the bottom half of the second. Trees in the top of the second could use some air holes. Lori

Re: 2 from Today
Agree with Lori about those trees in the second, they seem a little too solid.
But otherwise, 2 more terrific efforts. I'm really impressed by the variety
I'm seeing from painting to painting in terms of paint application, overall
they all have a consistent "energetic" look but some seem to have very
thin sketchy paint while others look much juicier.

Dan
Thanks a lot.
Lori
Thanks for giving me another good advice.
Robert
Thank you
Chris
Yeah, the 'variety' puzzles me as well, I just don't get it how come they all look so different. It sometimes drives me a little crazy

Re: 2 from Today
Your work has feeling. I think you get it because you feel the subject and the day as you work. You succeed in getting that feeling into your stroke.

Israel,
Really enjoy how you use such restraint with color. It adds real sophistication to the work.
That slash of light on the lower right in the second one is spectacular! Really gives it a sense of depth.

Re: 2 from Today
Thanks Marc, what do you mean by the restraint with colours though?

I mean that you use just enough color to make your statement without adding color for the sake of more color. Your palette is more reserved and let's the viewer want more....and I think it looks more rich than using the 'kill'em with color' approach. I think it's a huge plus.

Re: 2 from Today
Oh I see, thanks. I think so far the only consistant thing in my paintings is the palette. It is indeed pretty reserved. I used only 3 primaries(ultra. blue, lemon yellow, and alizarin crimson) and white, ocassionally burnt umber for underpainting and the darkest dark.
I am thinking of changing my primaries to opaque colours: cobalt blue, cad. yellow and cad. red, what do you think? I see very few people use only lemon yellow as their yellow. I use it because it's transparent.

Isreal,
Your paintings are always very lively because your brushwork is so expressive. They almost read as abstracts while still holding onto recognizable elements. I think you have a great sense of design within your artwork and it never ceases to grab my attention. I look forward seeing more of your work!

Re: 2 from Today
Thanks a lot Randy
my vision is not perfect and I don't paint with my glasses, I don't even wear it unless I have to read the blackboard or watch the TV, so my eyesight gives me the automatic squinting.

Re: 2 from Today
Hello israel,
I remember your work since last year. I always liked your way of painting as
you give a lot of personal input. Some of your recent posts had a a bit low contrast for my taste.
I like both paintings in this one, the second is my favorite. Please forgive me I played a bit with the contrast and also cut the composition a bit.
But possibly this is not the direction you want to go.??
Did you ever consider to put in a figure into the paintings to indicate scale ?
I start using this "instrument" and it is amazing how landscape changes as soon as a human figure is showing up.
Anyway I look forward to see more of your work and artistic development.
Martin
