I am always amazed by what you make of subject matter I would find totally uninspiring. Marvellous.

Wow, having been watching Dan's work and on-site photos for a year now,
it's hard to believe one could consider his environment uninspiring. Ocean +
rocky/rough coastline + distant mountains/headlands + the ever changing
sky and weather conditions = uninspiring? OK, but I wish I had such
uninspiring scenery around me.

This is an exciting set of paintings, Dan - and the size! Great job.

Re: 30 x 40"s

Dan,
so glad I dropped by Plein Air today and found these!! Awesome color and composition. You never disappoint me How long do you work on a painting this size....one session? or more than one?

Looking at the photos makes me feel chilled thru but viewing your paintings doesn't have that effect. You really warm up the scene!!

Dan, as always ... you are indeed, the man. 30x40? Time to go larger. Just kidding.

You must go through many pastels!!

Re: 30 x 40"s

Hi and thanks for comments
Israelyang the large ones are sails, sometimes the pastels subject is determined by wind direction and available tie downs

Chris the larger works are finding homes!

thanks Jackie I am not sure I use inspiration, its more like I am trying to paint my landscape(I'm fortunate to live here), when I leave in the morning to paint its like going to work,
I have two figuritive pastels going into a show about work and I submitted muscians playing, I look upon work (painting plein air or playing jazz) as a great thing, but now that I see the poster I think the show is about the downtrodden worker. didn't get the memo,

Carly I work on the large ones for about 3 hours in the field, then a little touch in studio, or before they go in frame, sometimes they just go downhill in studio until they are recycled.

Jim $2000 in pastels on income tax return '04!!!

Dan, yikes! Are you sure you aren't writing off some of your kids' crayons too?

Nice jazz musician.
